THE STORY
Thanks to your high resilience and your even higher scores on the Universal Weapon Handling Assessment, you were lucky enough to get hired as a security guard for top secret Project EXTRANEÜM (pronounced ex-strain-yum). A game with some serious Magikarp power. Tldr; Extraneum has a weak early game, but a really good late game. Also, 1/4 of the game is hidden behind secret hunting. If that's not your thing, you'll get a much smaller game. Being completely honest, this game starts out pretty weak. The first 3-4 levels feel like an unimaginative Wolfenstein clone. I was genuinely bored with the small quantity of enemies, the low level of threat they posed, and the sheer simplicity of the combat. If you want to enjoy this game, do yourself a favor and play on the highest difficulty (Gruesome). Believe me, the hardest one here is around the "Normal" difficulty of most games. Also, activate the Y axis so you can aim upwards. I don't know why this one isn't the default. The game is easy enough on the hardest difficulty to merit a first blind playthrough on Gruesome. I'll start with the bad stuff first so you know what you're in for. NOT GOOD STUFF - Slow-paced weak early game that isn't exciting enough for most players - A lot of the game's best stages are behind secret exits, which heavily incentivizes secret-hunting - 80% of the lore is also hidden behind secrets - The game starts out with noti…1 found this helpful
Is good
Extraneüm is a pretty solid boomer shooter with a solid selection of weapons and a cool soundtrack. However, I have to say that the game feels a bit stretched, which certain stems from the fact that you're fighting mostly the same enemies for the entire three episodes. But anyways, it did keep me entertained to finish the game, so it's a thumbs up from my side.

A fantastic little shooter with slick presentation and wonderfully cute pixel art. Though a good reference point, It almost feels like a disservice calling it a Wolf-like when there's a lot more to see here. Perfectly focused, sci-fi dungeon exploration with memorable guns, monsters, fun writing, unique levels and meaningful upgrades. I get exhausted from a lot of shooters overstaying their welcome, but this is so remarkably scoped I 100%'d. Every single secret. Absolute banger.
