Developed and published by Bit Assembly, Filly Astray is a charming indie action-platformer that combines colorful pixel art with a surprisingly demanding combat system. Although its cheerful presentation and adorable protagonist might initially suggest a relaxed adventure, the game quickly reveals itself as an experience built around precision, timing, and mastery. Instead of relying on simple hack-and-slash mechanics, it encourages players to approach every battle thoughtfully while navigating a fantasy world filled with dangerous enemies, platforming obstacles, and memorable boss encounters. This balance between approachable visuals and mechanically satisfying gameplay gives the title a distinct personality that separates it from many traditional platformers. The game's biggest strength lies in its combat. Every successful hit contributes to a combo chain that steadily increases damage, rewarding players who maintain offensive momentum without making mistakes. This mechanic creates an engaging risk-and-reward system, as dropping a combo not only reduces offensive potential but can also leave the protagonist vulnerable. The controls feel responsive, making victories feel earned …

Really fun and challenging game with a lot of replay value, it has a few frustrating parts but nothing in particular that feels unfair except for the combos of some enemies that are kind of broken. The controls felt just a little sluggish at first but after I got used to it and I had no problem with platforming or fighting. The collectibles are also very well hidden and require knowledge of the game's mechanics (for example there is a gem shard thingy that requires you to do a sort of double jump which you can only perform by jumping, then pressing S, W and attacking in quick succession). One annoying thing though is that when quicktraveling back to the sewers you have to refight the first boss every time you get back to the boss arena, which is most likely a bug. The final boss requires exremely precise gameplay, it took me about 15 minutes to beat in normal mode and nearly an hour in hard mode (I doubt I'll ever beat brutal), however most deaths felt like they were my fault, with only a few attempts really being unfair. The graphics are also very beautiful, there's a clear art direction throughout the entire game and no part of the scenery feels particularly out of place. The…

Well, that was fun! Played it through in 4,7 hours and was left yearning for more. This game was sufficiently hard for a tougher platform gamer like me. Interesting fight mechanics, you really had to use the blocking or can't win anything in this game. Fun to learn what move combinations work on which enemies and bosses. Some fun boss designs. Movement could have been more fluid and I would have wanted to get more special moves. I think the game would have benefitted if the moves could have been executed in faster succession and also if the inertia from slide would have stayed for a jump right after and the upper cut would have been possible faster after other moves... If not from the beginning then maybe after a powerup. Now the jankiness of movement leaves somewhat amateurish feel for otherwise polished game. Character design is really cute and the game looks beautiful. Maybe there could be part 2 with more fluidity, more moves, more enemies and more levels... and maybe a little bit more story too.

Don't get me wrong. I want to like this game. I really want to like it, I got it as a gift for my B-day The graphics are adorable, even if simplistic. The enemy design is interesting. Everything around the visuals of the game is having this lovely charm like the old 16 bit games from my childhood However... This is where the good parts end. The audio part of the game could use a little bit of work, but that might be my own bias. Now let's get to the meat. I feel like most of the time I'm battling against controls way more than against the enemies The attacks feel clunky, and feels like they need to play out to the very last frame + a few more frames for the character to get back to default pose Blocking takes way too long for it to be truly useful. Sure, it does manage to serve its purpose sometimes, and I DO like how it won't fully negate strong attacks, and just cut the damage they deal to you However, oftentimes the fight is me vs controls and enemies who can be damn merciless. The arena champion took me way too many attempts (Yes, I know, I try to git gud, not the point). Oftentimes it feels the enemies can just change the direction of the attack in mid animation, making dodgin…
