Forgotten but Unbroken

It reminds me of a couple of older games i played, XCom and Soldiers at War. I enjoyed many hours of those games. This has elements of those like the strategy planning and great overwatch mechanics. I would like to see different theatres with maybe French resistance or even North African campaign as DLC. I would recommend it for those who enjoy Turn Based strategy and WW2 setting.

This game is pretty hard to enjoy. It's janky, oftentimes frustratingly opaque, and all around unfocused. There are some pretty great ideas, feels like a sort of This War of Mine meets XCOM, or even Valkyria Chronicles, but just doesn't really have a lot to say, and even less to do. The majority, and I really mean majority, of the game is just spent waiting around. You really just pass time in your camp waiting for a new mission to pop up, you have no real agency or objectives to pursue. Games like XCOM parse this waiting time by giving you research objectives or enemy activity to counter, but in this game all you do at camp is just wait. Missions will eventually pop up, but most of the time it's just a single mission that rewards some food or resources to upgrade your base, occasionally actually giving you a choice between two missions, though they're all generic, repeated missions regardless. There are assault missions where you have to push forward, either clearing an area of enemies or picking up an objective, usually both anyway, or defense missions where you have to hold a position against a few waves of enemies. As a huge fan of tacitcal games (such as XCOM 2, battle brothers etc etc) this one had been on my radar for a while. It is a fun games, but I have some criticsm for it. 1. The base managment system didn't have much depth. I never felt in danger of runing out of stuff and I maxxed out all my buildings by late 1943. 2. The disguse system was broken. When you got acess to diguese system, it was really easy to beat the levels. That is my criticsm of the game, now for the positive. 1. Good custimations of your troops. I enjoy that you were able to give your guys all kind of uniforms and weapons. 2. hard but fun battles. Sometimes, the battles were really hard, but I did enjoy them. I am looking forward to the creators next game.

Genuinely a really well made game, its not well known by any means but the combat system of it is even better than XCOM 2 i'd say. My only grimace is that i'd like more missions to be offered to us so we can pick and choose which to deploy on instead of a fair bit of downtime between 1 option coming up.

The mechanics are just terrible. I've noticed a trend in recent years with tactical games where, in order to make it more difficult, they simply make all of your attacks miss. Regardless of how close you are or how skilled you are with the particular weapon. There's nothing tactical about this game. It's just annoying.
