Fort Solis

Fort Solis is a perfect example of how narrative games can either feel like a great story-driven experience or just a walking simulator with chores. There’s a fine line between adding enough gameplay to support the narrative and filling it with annoying collectathon mechanics. Unfortunately, Fort Solis leans too far toward the latter. The narrative and voice acting are solid, but almost everything else feels below average. Add poor optimization and some seriously unresponsive QTEs, and the experience becomes more frustrating than engaging.

I love walking simulators in space but this is not it. It is very short (just 4 hours) and the story as simple as it gets without any twists. There are no aliens,no viruses, no mutations, no robots, no AIs nothing at all. The same story could be said in a remote farm in Africa or the Antartic. So play SOMA instead for a masterpiece or try observaton[0]/ Tacoma which are the "real" sci-fi walking sims.

Came for the sci-fi, stayed because apparently I enjoy wandering around abandoned buildings with zero survival instincts ┌( ಠ_ಠ)┘

Mixed seems very harsh. This is a slow moving, linear space-horror sim type of thing. Pretty good, pretty slow (deliberately). Let yourself be absorbed and you'll be ok.

Really liked the atmosphere in this one. It’s pretty slow and mostly about walking around, exploring and figuring out what happened, but I was into it. The station looks great, the whole thing feels creepy in a really nice way and the voice acting is solid. Not perfect, but definitely a cool little sci-fi game.
