Fragile Feelings

This is not my first Ebi-Hime title I've played through. Here are some of my thoughts. I think in terms of writing, this visual novel was very enjoyable. I think the characters were made to be relatable and charming. The protagonist struggling through big mental and health problems was done in a tasteful way and I was able to relate to her and feel a lot of sympathy. The love interest in the game is also extremely fun. I was finding myself thinking through her perspective and relating to her a lot. I liked that the love interest is not particularly refined or snobby. Her style and independent attitude causing conflict with those around her was really interesting. I found that I was crying a bunch on the later half of the game, where some things were revealed. And while the revelations weren't actually that surprising or shocking, the emotional impact that the writing had was really felt. If I had to say where the one weakness of this game falls, it's that the first half of the game can be a little slow and that the game being set in Japan really does not do much for the game. A bit melancholic, although not to the extent as some of her other works, Fragile Feelings is a slower work that foregos a flashy grand plot instead for a smaller but meaningful drama. Ann lives in a purgatory, physically and mentally. Terminally ill, she takes no risks in life and very little changes through her day to day as she tries to maintain a steady equilibrium working in an isolated private boarding school, until a spicy nurse begins working there. Although the slow romance is a large part of it, Ann's relationship with her best friend is a significant aspect of the story especially in the latter half of the novel. Runa probably comes off as annoying for a while, but she grows on you by the end and the story between them is quite sweet. Ebi tends to always stick the landing and end her works well, and I think Fragile Feelings has one of the strongest epilogues which is saying something! It was really nice to see the character growth by the end. Throughout the last 1/4 of the novel you really feel like the characters have learned from who they were before which is super satisfying. id prob call this or dreamy planet the most “human” out of all the ebi vns. it’s almost a hard read at times just bc all the characters are flawed, flawed as in they make mistakes and poor selfish decisions but they all have realistic human reasons behind them. the game is super angst-heavy but holds alot of gratuitous yuri between it all and is overall a very heartwarming read. i dont really agree w/ the postgame where the mc forgives her friend for traumatizing her but i completely saw where both of them came from and it does make sense. great story and kohaku is hot af

Overall fairly wholesome, but it does handle some delicate/sensitive topics.

A solid story that delivers on its premise, but with to bumps in the road: 1.) The setup (shy, akward protagonist and new, confidend love-interest, both isolated among their peers, other people beeing incosiderate or jerks, important second female character and sudden, dramatic climax) has happend in a lot in other ebe-hime games. Its not getting formalistic, but it makes the game unsuprising. Also, ones again the worst person in the cast does not get called on their bullsh_t. Its somewhat logical here, but still disapointing. 2.) The climax is rather contrifed and relays on the maincharacter acting somewhat out-of-character towards their best friend. It also seems to be an odd choice to do this instead of a possible health-emergency with the mc, wich it seemed to build up towards.

Of all the Yuri I've experienced, This was probably my favorite. The plot is well structured and, being forced to take a break in the middle, I felt myself distracted from the other task at hand wondering what would happen next in the story. While playing I felt myself on the edge of my seat both literally and figuratively and was genuinely surprised by the sequences of events multiple times. This is one of the most complete and satisfying endings I've read. This is a great read and I will definitely be playing this again in the future. Wonderful addition to my library of games. 10/10
