About Godless

Defend your shrine against humanity as the last, and oh-so-vengeful god in this turn-based roguelike strategy game. Each run presents new challenges and opportunities to expand your reservoir of spells and summons against the blasphemous mortals who slaughtered every god in existence… except you.
Each turn, manage your resources to turn the tides of randomly-generated battles in your favor and protect your shrine at all costs.
 • Will you summon auto-battling units that attack, buff, or heal?
 • Will you cast spells to resurrect, enchant or poison targets?
 • Will you terraform the map with tiles that boost, block or teleport units?
Between battles, choose your path and upgrades wisely to find the optimal synergetic build for your next fight. Discover hundreds of items in four different elemental classes to create unique builds each run!
Unlock permanent upgrades after each run to destroy the ten continents and decide the fate of the world!

Godless is a roguelite... autobattler? I like it a lot. It's actually sad to see such a game. Usually when I see a great game that didn't become a hit I can find some explanation, usually it's something with production values. But here the developer did everything right and just wasn't lucky. The game looks and sounds decent, the UI is completely adequate and makes it easy to play such a complex game. I see some people don't like randomness and indirect control, but I think they're missing the point, and it's hard to think of real complaints. Anyway, in this game you have your standard roguelite randomized path with various upgrades and resources, and you get into battles on hex grid. It's autobattler, as in you do not control any units, and instead just cast spells like summons and teraforming. You influence the battlefield so that your units win. Naturally there's a lot of complexity and all kinds of effects triggering other effects. Like you can summon a turtle unit, and every time it moves into a tile adjacent to water it moves again, so you can make "highays" for them to travel and also add some enchantment that triggers on unit move, or put beneficial buildings on those til…

A surprisingly fun Auto Battler, fun to figure out how to make builds work, and has a good amount of variation and diiffculty settings.

After playing 20 hours in 2 days, I feel compelled to write a review. This game is excellent!! Don't hesitate to pick it up if you like tactical roguelites. The rest of the review is long and boring, and mostly praise to the dev as well as a little feedback.
The good
This game could be a study example of good game design. There are many different systems at work, and they blend together well. Game is complex, but not complicated. Easy to pick up and learn, but requires thoughtful play on higher difficulties. Most "skills" (your active abilities) have a use, but some are inevitably better than others. The different status effects and modifiers are well thought out and probably the game's biggest strength: simple and (mostly) easy to understand, yet with plenty of options on how to interact with and benefit from them. There's no bloat. Why would any game ever need more than one type of DoT? Units act on their own, but you still have some agency through freezing or pushing them, or altering the terrain. Strikes a pretty good balance as a "semi-auto-battler". There are no card draws or dice rolls in battle. RNG only affects terrain generation, talent choices and shop st…

I really liked the concept and it has very interesting design choices, it could benefit from some more polish and some balance, but overall I think it is fun and interesting. Congratz to the developers, I assume they are a very small team (or solo?).

One of the best games I have ever played. It's vastly underappreciated. It should be much more famous!

Poorly balanced. Bosses get ABSURD very quickly, even on the easiest difficulty, ensuring that you earn only a pittance of XP from each run - while worthwhile upgrades cost a fortune. Strengthening your hand, thus, becomes an utter slog. But hey, if your idea of fun is beating your head against a wall to see which breaks first, this may be the game for you!
