Grey Area

So many deaths, but they were not for naught. Very challenging, but WOW this game is freakin awesome. If you want a difficult 2D platformer with a great story, and funny moments, then give this one a try.

This game is fantastic! If you love pretty difficult precision platforming, this game might be just for you. But it gets pretty hard (tho I was playing in Painful Mode)! My favorite part was the final boss :)

Most enjoyable 2D platformer I've played in quite a while. The secrets and optional collectibles are fun to find, level design is tricky but rarely outright sadistic, and the game feel is honestly almost perfect. The movement is snappy, fluid, and responsive, and the dive mechanic is ridiculously versatile and satisfying to use and master. The only problem is the camera - it's fine [i]most[/i] of the time, but in some stages it has a habit of whipping back and forth erratically in the middle of platforming segments, which can get really disorienting. Aesthetically, the game is great. It's cute, it's creepy without relying on obnoxious jumpscares, there's a lot of variety to the different areas, and characters, bosses, and enemies have a lot of personality in their designs and animation. The sound effect work is great too. The difficulty is good. I played on the normal difficulty and found it a satisfying challenge, even if some of the later stages got stingy with the checkpoints at the same time they got generous with the instant death pits. The game was frustrating at times, but, you know, the good kind of frustrating that motivates you to persevere rather than get mad and stop …

A very fun and challenging platformer that clearly had a lot of thought and effort put into its design and mechanics

Super fun and engaging! It's a tough game for sure, but no matter how many times I died, I never felt discouraged from getting up and trying again! The mechanics are a little tricky at first, but once you've gotten a good handle on them, they flow together really well; even when the game was actively kicking my ass, I loved engaging with the mechanics again and again! The wall bounce mechanic in particular is *super* satisfying once you've figured it out. Gameplay aside, I loved the story/worldbuilding too! I can't say too much without spoiling the game, but the dialogue really made the world feel alive; there's a few secrets hidden in the game as well, for anyone actively seeking them out! While I was writing this, I almost forgot to mention the soundtrack; it is *incredible*, and does a fantastic job of capturing the feeling of each moment in the game! Nothing ever felt out-of-place or inappropriate for the situation at hand! My personal favorites are the music that plays in the Grey Area itself, as well as another level you'll find much later in the game! 10/10 overall! Ya *gotta* buy it.

I forgot I even bought this game, and upon playing it again I realize why I haven't played it for such a long time. I do not own a controller for my PC, and this game is clearly meant for a controller. There is no mention in-game of controlling anything with a keyboard either, so it's kind of a guessing game in how you're supposed to do anything besides movement. I went into the game settings to try and remap the controls for my keyboard, and all it showed were controller buttons. Given this is a computer game, one would expect keyboard controls, especially ones that can be remapped to a certain control style. It's a shame. I really want to enjoy this game but it's only really compatible with controllers/joysticks, which not everybody has for a PC, such as myself.
