Grisaia: Phantom Trigger is a visual novel series set in the world of the acclaimed Grisaia franchise, featuring a totally new storyline and cast of characters, and brought to you by returning character artist Akio Watanabe and writer Ryuta Fujisaki.
Story:
This new incarnation of Mihama Academy is home to a diverse group of students, who every day work to polish their unusual skills - sometimes on the job. There's a gunslinger called Rena (nickname: "The Rabid Dog"), a sniper named Tohka, a demolitions expert called Chris, a spy named Murasaki, and finally, Haruto, their handler. Together they make up an agency called SORD (Social Ops, Research & Development). The specialist training school now entrusts the misfit girls who attend it with guns and live ammunition in the name of national defense.
Paying their own safety no heed, these students are again and again plunged into dangerous extrajudicial missions - all for the good of the realm.

That alone isn't enough - there wouldn't be any meaning in living, if that was all we had...
It's not enough just to get by on the backs of others. I live by my own strength, and I fight to survive.
Because only the survivors among us belong with the living..."

Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol.1 introduces a new phase of the Grisaia universe, shifting focus to Mihama Academy’s covert students and their handler-driven missions. It sets a tone that blends everyday school-life beats with the constant implication that these characters are being trained and deployed for dangerous work. As an opening chapter, it prioritizes establishing identity, style, and group dynamics. The story’s structure is compact and episodic, aiming to hook you with a clear premise rather than slow worldbuilding. Scenes move quickly between casual interactions and moments that hint at darker histories. That brisk pace helps maintain interest, though it can also make the volume feel like a prologue more than a fully self-contained plot. Character introductions are the main attraction. Vol.1 focuses on defining personalities through banter, routines, and short emotional cues, creating a sense of team chemistry early on. Even when the narrative is light, there is a persistent undercurrent of trauma and conditioning, suggesting the cast’s smiles are partially learned behavior. A tad on the pricier side, and this strange 'we don't want to/can't do NSFW content, but heres some blatantly censored suggestive stuff' dance is kind of annoying given the nature of the OG series, but barring those issues, its a fun and short start to this new tale of Grisaia.
Not really promising as a start. I still cant see this as a worthy sequel to the greatest Grisaia trilogy From a business perspective, splitting the story into volumes is also a bad decision because it forces me to review this without the full story For now, its just no from me. 5/10
FrontWing scammed backers of its KickStarter/IndieGogo projects of their money, can no longer recommend the series.
Decent story, cute girls, no sex, ecchi
Nice story, looking forward to reading the next volumes. Casually has the best Ninja girl ive ever seen, 10/10 would die for Murasaki.
