About The Fruit of Grisaia

SIX FRUITS BARE THEIR FANGS AT THE WORLD.
--The academy was their orchard.
In this place of learning, protected by high walls from the outside world, there arrived
a single young man who'd lost his purpose in life. He'd lost sight of what he wanted to protect. He passed his days in a haze of guilt and regret. All that remained to him were the chains around his neck... And a life worth less than that of a stray dog. But in that academy, he would meet five young women. And in time, he would discover a new thread of hope.
--That girl's very birth was a mistake.
The sin of disobedience--
--A life not so different from death.
No one’s going to protect you--
--And survival itself can be a punishment.
That place was their orchard. Those young women were the fruits of remorse, grown on the tree of sorrow.
"What can I do for them...?"
In that thought lay the undying hope one young man had dreamed of finding--

Fruits of Grisaia is the visual novel that later inspired the anime of the same name. It's a decent-length VN. I'm by no means a slow reader, and I still clocked around 70 hours to complete all the routes. You play as Yuuji Kazami, a seemingly normal, witty, hilarious, and direct Japanese teenager with a shadowy past tied to the Japanese military, essentially their version of a 007-style agent. He comes to Mihama Academy to decompress and learn how to live a normal life. Everyone at the school has their own unique traumatic reason for being there, and as the game plays out, you learn about and help each of the girls work through their issues and circumstances as your relationship with them deepens, basically an "I can fix her" premise, except he actually follows through and gets the happy ending (or a horrible, tragic bad ending). The game follows typical VN pacing: you play for a while at a set pace until you're confronted with options that guide you down the various romance paths. Don't expect a ton of choices or branching influence, but there are some genuinely impactful decisions later on that come out of nowhere and punch you in the gut. The game does a great job balancing …

Slow-paced slice of life content. I played for a few hours, but decided I wasn't really enjoying it by then and didn't see where anything was going

This is an amazing game. I have been interested in this IP for a long time since I watched the anime. Playing the VN has given me a lot of extra depth into the characters and their motives of course so It's made me love this series even more than I did in the past. I just finished Michiru's routes and am currently going through the best girl; Yumiko's. I would recommend this to anyone getting into VN's or is a veteran that just hasn't read it. The only thing I would warn about is the length. I have not played a VN this long before and the common route was a surprise with it's length. I have also heard that Amane's route is 95% flashback which I'm not surprised about but it's something to mention.
