Guildford Castle VR

A guided museum like tour of Guildford Castle, in Surrey, England. I am someone who gets really hard when it relates to anything from or about the Middle Ages, so this was right up my alley. Like mentioned, this tour is about this castle and its surroundings, mostly the castle grounds. It seems like the castle itself is a 3D scan with the rest of the area having been handcrafted. You are placed outside of the castle and then left to freely walk around and interact with the info boards as you please, the boards are scattered around the map. Some of the info boards will take you back in time and show you what it might have looked like when it was new, I liked this part a lot. The narration is really good, sounds professional, soft voice but easy to understand. I did experience one issue though. These VR games sometimes untab themself when launched, usually happens on first launch and it will leave your game muted. So if your game is muted upon launching, you can fix it by clicking once on the game window on your PC, it should tab it right back in. "Guildford Castle VR" isn't a game. Real games require "gameplay" through loops and interaction, both of which are missing from this VR tech demo/virtual museum. Rather than functioning as a game, "Guildford Castle VR" is just a software app that presents a 3D museum walkthrough of a castle in England. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Here's an example of a game loop. In Dark Souls, you explore an area, encounter an enemy, fight that enemy and if the computer lets you survive, you repeat that loop with the computer providing you with new enemies. Another example is Candy Crush, where you rearrange your gems and if you create a match, they're eliminated, you get rewarded, and then the game provides you with more gems to match to repeat the process. There's no such loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". Launching non-fiction museum and art gallery applications in the "Games" category on Steam is incredibly misleading. it's a really nice tour of medieval guildford. i love being able to imagine the past and compare it with the present day. it's free, i don't think people should be angry that it's not a game. it's an interactive VR experience and it definitely lives up to that.

A great VR tour of Guildford castle. It superimposes the old and the new, allowing you to experience what it was like when it was first built and during it's evolution. I need more of these!

IF you have a VR System then you MUST download this! It is perfection! It is a trip to the UK and a tour that you will eventually HAVE to take in real life! I am making plans now to go there!
