About The Great Exhibition of 1851 in VR
The Great Exhibition ran from May to October 1851 in London's Hyde Park, in a temporary building known as the Crystal Palace. Six million visitors passed through the turnstiles, to view over 100,000 individual exhibits.
Now, over 170 years later, we are recreating the exhibition as an immersive VR experience. The simulation includes a narrator to describe each of the exhibits and the Crystal Palace building. Fire up your SteamVR system and explore the Great Exhibition...If no VR headset present will run in fallback mode (monitor / keyboard / mouse).Note: this is a large application and can take some time to start up.

Great concept, love the environment and general idea of the game, but it feels very unfinished. The game needs a proper start menu, with a UI to toggle graphics and sound settings. The world feels incomplete, needs work on shadow implementation and more polished and higher detailed objects. Even though my PC can handle this game, it can go from 200fps to 40fps at any given time. Game feels very unoptimized. That's my 2 cents on it.1 found this helpful
This only gets better as time goes on. More and more items are being added. It's like stepping back in time.1 found this helpful
A free VR representation of The Great Exhibition of 1851. It's very impressive how much research and time went into this recreation. Love that VR isn't just for gaming.1 found this helpful
Downloading again to see all the things that have been added over the last year, hope to see voice narration like Versailles vr has, using ai audio narration is quick easy and free.
A historical recreation in VR. Great use of the VR medium but flatscreen is also supported. Easy to lose track of time just exploring around. It’s well researched and constantly getting updates making it well worth keeping an eye on.
You really have to appreciate the effort put into this project. It's well worth the download and there are updates being done regularly to further improve The Great Exhibition of 1851. I'm really looking forward to see where this continues to go. Big props to the one man/woman who is developing this all for us for free behind the scenes! Question For The Dev: Is there any chance you are planning to create other VR world exhibitions from the 1800's in the future? I'm sure just this project alone has been a huge undertaking but I have to ask :) Keep up the great work and THANK YOU!
