Halo: Spartan Assault

Halo: Spartan Assault is a short and enjoyable twin stick shooter that does exactly what it sets out to do without trying to be much more than that. The gameplay is simple, the missions are quick, and the Halo setting works well with this style of game, making it easy to recommend if you want something small that you can finish without investing a huge amount of time. That said, if you have already played Halo: Spartan Strike, be prepared for a lot of déjà vu. The two games are extremely similar in their structure, gameplay and overall concept, to the point where playing both back to back can make the experience feel almost redundant. Spartan Assault actually feels better to me in some aspects, particularly visually, which makes the differences between the two even harder to justify as separate experiences. The PC version also has an annoying limitation with its display options, as you are essentially stuck with fullscreen or a very small window. Still, for what it is, Spartan Assault is a fun little Halo game and worth playing if you want a short top-down shooter. I just wouldn't recommend playing both games expecting two substantially different experiences. [b]Score: 5/1…

Fun, small twin stick shooter. Introduces one of characters that appear in later mainline games. Absolutely fine way to spend an afternoon or two. Also, I don't like how Palmer is like "that's the only cool stuff I've done that they tell you about? How about this other cool stuff". I get that she's a Spartan and she's already much more powerful than regular marine and that's cool but in this game she's not even a character, she's nothing more than avatar and her acting like she's the coolest person ever is just annoying and it gets worse in Halo 4. Thankfully she only exists as a character in one cutscene.

this is a fun little game you can sit back and enjoy even on it's hardest modes, but it is pretty lacking in music and gameplay plus it did not save my progress. Would of gave this a 6/10 because it was originally a 2013 mobile game but that one bug makes this a 3/10. I want to recommend this because I love Halo but I just can't.

Hey kiddo, Handsome Jack here... and I just played Halo: Spartan Assault, and apparently someone looked at the Halo franchise and thought, “You know what this needs? Less Master Chief, fewer giant explosions, and a camera that's approximately twelve miles above the battlefield.” Bold choice. You play as a Spartan from a top-down perspective, which means you're still running around shooting Covenant, driving vehicles, throwing grenades, and generally making aliens regret waking up that morning. It's Halo, just from the perspective of someone who apparently has a drone following them around filming the entire war. The shooting is actually pretty satisfying. You've got assault rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers, plasma weapons, grenades, vehicles, and all the familiar Halo toys. You can still get that satisfying moment where you line up a grenade perfectly and send an entire group of Covenant straight to the afterlife. Except now you're looking at everything from above. It's like Halo decided to become a very violent version of a board game. The missions are short and straightforward, which honestly isn't a bad thing.
