About HARVESTELLA

✦ AI summary

Lead a life of farming, cooking, and crafting in your base town while uncovering the mystery behind Quietus, a seasonal catastrophe that grows deadlier each year. Switch between multiple combat jobs mid-battle to exploit enemy weaknesses and explore gorgeous dungeons across four distinct regions as you work toward awakening the Seaslights and saving the world.

HARVESTELLA, an all-new life-simulation RPG from SQUARE ENIX!

Our protagonist awakens during the height of Quietus, a disaster that visits with the changing of each season – and a threat to all life.
Lead a life of self-sufficiency with your vibrant house as a base and cooperate with allies to overcome various threats, all as you draw ever closer to the truth behind the disasters and the very world’s creation!

Quietus

The season of death that visits with the changing of the seasons. Plants wither. People cannot even walk around outside, due to the dust of death that fills the air. And each year, Quietus persists for longer and longer…

World

Nemea Town, where cherry trees bloom all year round. Shatolla, a seaside town home to a bustling tavern. Lethe Village, resplendent in the vibrant colours of the four seasons. The Holy Capital of Argene, cloaked in snow. Use the world map to travel to all these settlements and their respective dungeons. You will have to traverse beautiful, treacherous paths to reach the Seaslights – four giant crystals that govern the seasons.

Daily Life

Grow fruit, vegetables and crops in your fields to either sell or use as crafting materials. If you use the produce you’ve grown in your cooking, the food will grant extremely helpful effects for your adventures, such as HP recovery or temporary stat boosts! It might also be a good idea to take care of some plump cluffowl birds, dignified goat-like woolum, and a pet totokaku.

Allies

Shrika, a missionary searching for a new form of faith. Heine, a pompous gentleman mechanic.
Asyl, descendent of the Wind poem people. And Aria, a mysterious girl who claims to have come from the future. Cooperate with – and sometimes clash with – your allies, including these characters among others. Reach a deeper mutual understanding by facing their worries and their way of life head on.

Combat

Overcome battles by switching seamlessly between jobs during combat – including the Fighter, adept with swift sword techniques, the Shadow Walker, which deals critical wounds with twin blades, or the Mage, specialising in magic attacks. When faced with a mighty foe, skilfully target their weak points to inflict the Double Break state and take them down in an instant!

The writer for this game should probably be put on a list. Almost every single side quest in this game involves you helping/playing/socializing with very small children. I don't mean teenagers I mean children from about 5-9 years old. The protagonist is 20 btw. Even when a quest seems normal at first, it will very often loop back around to suddenly you need to have long conversations with an 8 year old. The main quest also incorporates playing with small children as well with an orphanage playing a prominent part at one point. I am so sick of discussing the "mean parents" or "secret forts" with children. I just want to farm leave me the ♥♥♥♥ alone. The writing as a whole is very annoying and creepy. I'm trying to ignore it but damn. They do not let you skip any dialog or cutscenes and each dialog text box is very slow since they tie the text boxes with animations. This game so desperately wants to be Rune Factory but its worse in every way even compared to the older Rune Factory games. Even if for some reason you love spending hours of your time chatting up children, you can really do better as a game. Just pick up Guardians of Azuma.

"Oh, the world is in danger? Sorry, I can't help, I ran out of stamina planting tomatoes" I really enjoyed this game, it's like Final Fantasy but you also run a farm. It does feel a bit immersion-breaking at times when there's apparent impending threat, but you can spend as many days as you like tending to your farm instead of progressing the story. It's a decent game, nothing ground-breaking. A solid 6 or 7 out of 10 I'd say.
Story/Characters
The story itself, although somewhat predictable if you've played enough JRPGs, was fairly enjoyable. Aside from the immersion breaking I mentioned above, the narrative pulls you to keep going to find out more. The characters are on the blander side - no-one is outright dislikeable, but most of them are just "fine" and the character stories you go through with them as bonding quests are mostly forgettable with a couple of exceptions (Heine, my love!). And the side quests although they sometimes have interesting stories attached, are a lot of running back and forth between characters in different locations and can get a bit tedious to get through.
Gameplay
So the gameplay is split between your general RP…

story: 10/10 characters: 8/10 (some are very interesting some are plain) music & graphics: 9/10 (music is nice sounding but sometimes it's like a lullaby and makes me sleepy) combat: 1/10 (disaster) farming, crafting & etc: 6/10 (basic, not bad) Overall I'll still recommend this game to those who love good story RPGs. You'll have to ignore how poor the combat design is.

Ignore my hours played, it's not accurate, but i did put at least 80 or so hours into the game in the playthrough i completed. The game is missing some QoL features that it should have had at launch and it could have used slightly more of a budget. However, i can't deny that i had a great time and that the game kept my interest more the longer i played it. HIGHLY underrated game that is perhaps held back by that lack of some QoL and a bit of polish.

I like the idea of the game much more than the game itself. The story seems decent and interesting. At least, the overall main story... the individual conversations and writing are pretty bad. My biggest complaints are with the controls and gameplay. It's obviously an afterthought to add keyboard/mouse controls to the game. You can't really change the controls to play right either (you can change the keys, but it doesn't matter since it's hard coded to function as if it was a controller input; e.g. trigger+Button for skills and job/tool changes, which doesn't work well on KBM). There's no block/dodge in combat, at least from what I've seen so far (maybe there's some ability in one of the jobs, don't know.. "Step" is not dodge). You just sit there and spam attacks and face tank all damage for the most part, or try to run around and kite enemies from range. The responsiveness of actions is very very bad, probably about 25% of my inputs don't register (even more sometimes); it doesn't matter if it's in combat, during text, farming, ui interactions, etc.. I also hate the forced time lapse in dungeons (or just time progressing in dungeons overall) and forced fatigue collapse af…

This game was better than I expected. Its a very satisfying farming sim tied pretty well together with a classic SE JRPG. The plotline was longer and more complicated than I expected. Farming is satisfying and more options for development continually open as you play the game. Farming really acts as a method to acquire money to improve your fighting ability in the JRPG side of the game. I have 3 complaints though: 1. There is no voice acting. For a game with a ton of story scenes, to have all of it being text only in todays age is not as fun. 2. The combat is strange in that there is no way to block, dodge, or mitigate damage. You are expected to face tank all damage and rapidly heal it off with cooked food/juice you make from farming. Its different but in the end you get used it. 3. There are unlocks for the farm you will likely never see because it requires 10+ hours of grinding the endgame dungeon to unlock the mats for it. The first two sprinklers for auto-watering crops are useless, and the last one thats good is literally one of the last unlocks you will get, long after the game is completed. Regardless of those complaints, I still had fun, and continued the game past…
