About Hexarchy

Hexarchy – The Ultimate 4X Deckbuilding Strategy Game

Build thriving cities, expand your empire, gather resources, and forge history through trade—or conquest. Hexarchy is a fast-paced, card-driven 4X strategy game that blends the best of city building, deckbuilding, resource management, empire building, and hex-based tactics into one uniquely addictive experience.

A New Take on Turn-Based Historical 4x Strategy

Hexarchy brings a fresh twist to the historical 4X formula with fast games and deckbuilding mechanics.
 • Build Your Civilization – Build cities, improve your land, gather and trade resources.
 • Manage Scarce Resources - Build improvements on your land to gather resources. Use them to build buildings, wonders, armies and more. Or sell them for gold.
 • Great Wonders, Great Bonuses - Spend your precious resources to construct wonders with game-changing bonuses.
 • Deckbuilding, 4x Style – Research technologies and adopt civics to build a deck for your strategy and play style.
 • Conquest – Master the terrain, optimize your supply lines, and outmaneuver your enemies to best your rivals militarily, if you choose to.
 • Short Games, Massive Replayability - 11 unique civilizations, multiple map types, multiple game modes, and games that last less than an hour. “One more turn” just became One More Game.

Plenty of Game Modes to Keep You Busy

Play your way with a variety of game modes:
 • Singleplayer Skirmish – Choose the map type, game length, player spacing, AI difficulty, and more.
 • Daily & Weekly Challenges – Take a shot at short daily challenges and longer weekly campaigns then see where you placed on the global leaderboard.
 • Weekly Hegemon Challenge - Choose a civilization and cooperate with all other players that chose that civilization this week. Complete randomly generated single-player campaigns to make your civilization the Global Hegemon for the week.
 • Competitive Multiplayer with Ladder – Think you’re pretty good? Put it to the test in cut-through PvP and see how high you can make it on the ladder. Or just conquer your friends in a custom game.
 • Cooperative Multiplayer - Don’t want to lose any friends today? Team up with them against one or more AI teams instead.

Easy to Learn, Deep in Strategy

Hexarchy is designed to be accessible yet endlessly replayable. Whether you’re a deckbuilding pro, 4X veteran, or new to the genre, you’ll find rewarding depth and new strategies to explore in every session.
 • 13 Unique Civilizations – Each with a unique unit, ability, and bonuses.
 • Global Trade System – Buy and sell resources in a dynamic market.
 • Unit Customization – Upgrade and customize your military forces with powerful promotions.
 • Tactical Combat – Endless ways to best your opponents militarily - outmaneuver them using the terrain, capture key resources, cut off their supply lines, and pillage their improvements.
Are you ready to build, expand, and dominate? Lead your civilization to glory in Hexarchy today.
The Good

Simple and fast 4X. Actions per rounds are limited by your hand. So the scope of your engine building is focused.
The card mechanic is fun. The game is a deck builder at its core. For me, I liked it. When you get a great round due to you building your deck, it's a sweet feeling.

The Bad

Randomness of cards. You are are the mercy of card drafting. Even more by the hand you draw each round.
Missing the one-more-turn feel. Due to the speed of the rounds, it doesn't feel empire building.
Master of none. The game is neither a great card name, nor a good 4x game.

Final Thoughts
Hexarchy is not recommended. Hexarchy offers a bitesize 4X experience. However, for me, I prefer my 4X chunky, deep, and long.

Quick, easy to get into, almost casual, yet classic, strategy game. I'm about to up the difficulty (there are 3 more levels) and wonder if it will feel more 4X - though I actually expect it to put more pressure on tactics and application of memorized technology tree [strategy].

Fun roguelite style addition the 4X/civilization genre. Plays fairly fast; easy to learn, harder to master. Got it on sale as part of a Humble Bundle.

Fun, fast, very good

Caveat right up front. I bought this game for under $10 on a heavy sale, so it's still fairly fun, if you think of it as a shallow Civ clone. However, had I paid full price I would have felt very disappointed. It really is just a Civ clone with a card game bolted on, designed to be very short to mask the lack of depth. The game will be over very quickly, and they even warn you that if you choose to continue playing after a winner is declared that there may be balance issues. That's a clever way to inform the player that it's intentionally short, because making a full-length, fully balanced game is much more difficult. This is my main gripe with Roguelites (which this game is in spirit). Make the player play the first hour endlessly, and paint it as an intentional game mechanic, because creating a fully deep, and long game is so much more costly, and time consuming. If you get this cheap, you'll love it. If you want a real, fully developed city builder, this will piss you off.
