Hollowed is a short puzzle platformer that caught my attention because of the way it handles its main character. I play as Halia, a woman trying to bring her dead loved one back to life, while also controlling her spirit Oco at the same time. Both characters are connected, and I have to use them together to get through the different areas. It is a pretty unusual setup for a platformer, and I think it gives the game enough of its own identity to stand out. The best part for me is controlling Halia and Oco together. Halia handles the normal movement and jumping, while Oco has four different abilities that I use to interact with the environment and help Halia get through obstacles. I like the idea because I am not simply controlling two characters separately. I have to think about what both of them are doing at the same time. Some puzzles make good use of that connection and give me a nice feeling when I finally understand what the game wants me to do. The world is also one of the stronger parts. The game uses fully rendered 3D environments while keeping the gameplay in a side scrolling format, and there are hidden areas and secrets for me to find. The strange fantasy setting fits t…
