About Inside the Flesh Engine

Your first breath — and you're sent for disposal.
No name, no number, no sky, no light — only pain, only flesh.
Metal trembles and moans. Mechanisms tear through tissue.
Imprisoned in someone else's survival, you serve a creature — feed it, carry out its orders.
It consumes the structure. It consumes you.
Like a parasite, it nests deep within the factory that has consumed the planet itself.
But even it is just a shadow of the true creator — the one who gave birth to this endless industrial hell.
It is unreachable.
It is like a god.
  • Survival horror
  • Oppressive atmosphere
  • Gradual loss of humanity
  • Megastructure

Miserable creation without merit, made in an attempt to ride the trends of retro graphics and meat aesthetics. The game is not fun. It's tagged as a roguelike game, but I've died a decent number of times now and I don't know what's supposed to be roguelike about it. It seems to be nothing more than a walking simulator. You walk your slow-ass walk down dark hallways, the patrolling enemy spots you and chases you forever, then you respawn somewhere (often six feet away) and do it all again, but the things you picked up stay picked up and the things you feed to your wall face man stay fed to the wall face man. At the start of the game it seems like there's gonna be lots of "gotcha" deaths where you die because an unconventional quick-time event happened and you don't know the buttons of the game yet, but eventually that seems to stop and you just die to the bad environment. The weird quick-time events, which feel like they carried most of the gameplay you can get from this game, seem to have disappeared. As a walking simulator, you would expect exploration to be the primary experience. The "death mechanics(?)" present in the first 30 minutes of the game ensure that you don't get to…

Really want to enjoy this game but the visual experience I've come to expect is nowhere to be found, instead finding every texture during gameplay drowned out by a glaring "redness" that drowns out most of the visuals. I have no problem running this game but something is very wrong. Seems like the type of game I'd enjoy otherwise, but I can barely see anything due to all the bright, glaring red that smothers everything else. Nothing like the videos, playthroughs or screenshots I've seen.

I am gonna be honest in this review. Is this game for everyone, no. Is this game an artform, yes. The talking points i'm explaining is the game being extremely short. There are multiple endings, The game feels janky on some areas i don't know if that was intended mainly the factory area. I felt some monsters were a bit unfair as there weren't too many hiding spots near the end of the game . I am only recommending this game if you have the patience to deal with it's unsettling artform that is not a negative and the fact the game won't handhold you, the rest after that is up to interpretation. I feel that the 4 dollar price tag was worth it for a short game.

Interesting, short experience, but it can be quite confusing what to do next. 5/10

i think we have something deeply ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up here....and i bloody love it! Seconds into the experience and i'm blown away by the immersive meatpunk (tortureporn? biopunk? all of the above?) worldbuilding and aesthetic. wow. It’s honestly baffling that this game hasn’t made a bigger splash within the various niche gaming communities whom comprise the intended audience. It delivers something genuinely special—the kind of experience than only a carefully crafted indie title can offer. Fans of various media like Mouthwashing, Scorn, Endoparasitic, Wayne Barlowe’s Hell, grimdark fiction, The Art of H.R. Giger, Mad God, Quake II, and the Mystery Flesh Pit will really appreciate the game’s grotesque, immersive art direction and distinct visual style. That said, the biggest drawback is its lack of player guidance. The mechanics shift constantly, which could be exciting, but often becomes frustrating when it’s unclear what you’re supposed to do (game-styles seem to range from stealth and survival to point & click). Because the gameplay style changes so frequently, it can be difficult(not impossible) not impossible to understand one's objectives, let alone how to accomplish them. Never…

Decided to get the game and play through it thinking It would be a fun body horror experience like, but instead it was a over stimulating buggy mess. The first hour I thought it was a cool concept and thought it was presented pretty well especially with how the first game over happened. After that it quickly fell apart after running in circles bashing my head against a wall til I figured stuff out in the death minigames. At some point the big guy that chases you pushed me when opening a vent to hide in and it made me unable to die which sucks when you have him and 5 small things screeching at you. After another hour of running around thinking I found a new area just to get a shortcut back to the beginning and not being able to interreact with anything I just turned the game off.
