Journey To The Center Of The Earth

Bad use of a great concept. Journey To The Center Of The Earth is a puzzle platformer where you control 3 characters with different powers. These are not evenly distributed, as some have way more importance and applicability than others. These make some characters feel overlooked and forgotten, mainly being used as stepping stones. The contextualization is minimal. Characters have one paragraph of backstory, and their abilities have little correlation to them, creating the feeling that they were picked to support the gameplay. Since this game is supposedly based on a novel, I was expecting more effort to be put here. The graphics are bad, and anyone who says otherwise must be joking. The grid approach does not do them any wonders. The sound design is also bad and generic. The gameplay felt off for me. Most abilities do not provide enough impact, the survival mechanic is weird, and platforming is iffy because of the bad jumping and hitboxes. I also wished there was a way to command some characters to move to places (not always, this is not supposed to be a core mechanic) since you have to manually select every one of the three characters and move them individually every time you…

It's a lame indie platformer, and I don't recommend it.

A solid puzzle platformer with a charming look and great atmosphere, but held back by repetitive level design and wonky controls. The three-character mechanic is clever in theory, but managing them often feels like a chore. Worth grabbing on a deep sale if you love classic puzzle adventures.

Unfortunately, as you venture further down, cracks start to appear. The platforming physics feel inconsistent; jumps can be floaty, and the collision detection sometimes works against you.
