Katana Soul

If you grew up in the 80s and long for the good old days, where games where simple and something you could do without fully ruining your (social) life, this is for you. This recent 2019 game mimics its old school predecessors extremely well, including commodore 64 bootup and CRT monitor simulation, hardcore difficulty without checkpoints or saving, crappy graphics, stiff controls and clunky boss fights. It feels like an original game from the 80s that you never played, until now! It's worth its low price, especially when on sale. So time to unsheathe your katana and slice some grainy pixels!

A good short game. with a bit of a old skool arcade challenge to it.

A big leap forward in quality compared to the first games made by SEEP, and very different from the light-hearted fare they did previously. It's also one of their best, if not the best, despite being so early. I'm under the impression they were inspired quite a bit by Oscar Celestini's [b]Black Jewel[/b], mixed with 1980s samurai games like [b]Kenseiden[/b] and [b]Genpei Touma Den[/b], but the end result is much better than the possible inspiration. [b]Katana Soul[/b] is styled like a lost Commodore 64 title, complete with 4:3 aspect ratio, no scrolling, and a large status bar taking the bottom of the screen. Heroic samurai Kan handles fine, but he's not exactly a ninja: his movement is fairly slow, he can't crouch, and beside his regular sword slash (whose hitbox is, however and thankfully, larger than it may seem at first glance), the only power-up he can find allows him to throw fireballs but is lost at the first hit received; besides that, it's only some onigiri and a couple extra lives, the second of them right before the final boss. Consequently, each screen must be tackled carefully, as moving too fast is a surefire way to end up falling into some traps, same with enemies. …

Loving this so far, it truly captures the classic feel!PURE nastalgia for me as someone who was a kid back in thoses days! So nice when i find these new gems that take you back!Glad to see that things have come around that those days are so appreciated!

Good simple old school fun, reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi but not as hard and slower paced. Worth a few bucks for sure.

Fun old school ninja action game, Designed to look and play like an authentic commodore 64 game, gameplay is good, music is good, has Hard mode and Survival mode, i like this game the best, out of the few games i have played from this developer, Developer please make a sequel
