Kitsune

I should have listened to the other negative reviews, so I'll let my own review as a warning to potential buyers. I didn't finish my first run after 4 hours of play, as the game became heavy and depressing, and that's certainly not what I look for in game. If you don't mind that, go ahead, but if you're looking for a light, mischievious and sexy adventure with a Kitsune theme, this one isn't that.

I really enjoyed this novel. As others have said, there's more to it than just what you see here on the page. I have seen it compared to Doki Doki: Literature Club but I'd say- [spoiler] this is not a meta-narrative. This novel is psychological, but everything that happens is within its narrative universe. [/spoiler] For that reason I still recommend it, even as someone who avoided DD:LC. I enjoyed it to the point that I'm seeking out the author's other works to read next, which I think is about the best recommendation you can get to in favor of reading this.

Excellent interactive fiction. The story started off a bit slow, but the 2nd half had me on the edge of my seat. I could tell the author had an appreciation for Japanese culture and the lore of the kitsune. While romance was present, I prefer much more romance, but that's just a personal bias. 9/10.

I have mixed feelings on this "choose your own adventure" type story, but ultimately, I recommend it with caveats. If that's all you need to know, move on. If you want more, keep reading. Minor spoilers mostly for concept and design. My first play-through I took my time and made the choices that I wanted to make (within limits, see below). I found the twists interesting, the design well-thought, the story pretty well written, and enjoyed it immensely. First play-through, I would have given this a solid "A". My second time, I decided to play very differently. I made a character concept in my head for the MC, and I made my choices in line with that concept. This is where the concept and design choices negatively impacted my experience, albeit in a limited way. This makes sense in context, and I thought that the narrative handed this well. I think knowing exactly what you're getting into dampens the enjoyment of what you'll get out of this. It's been a while since a story that has been so riveting I've lost track of time. I have a bias for things involving kitsune, but I believe this is well-written. The main thing I disliked was the sense there was no way to actually 'fail' in situations that certainly should have had consequences. There doesn't seem to be any bad end before the epilogue. But it is possible to miss rather important information that seems to affect the epilogue.

It's a fun story experience. Keep it up, CoG!
