Knightica: Prologue by Mad Mango Games is a compact but thoughtfully constructed introduction to a roguelike auto-battler that leans heavily on planning, synergy, and spatial awareness rather than direct player control. Even in this early slice, the game establishes a clear identity built around preparation and experimentation, inviting players to assemble small tactical squads and then watch their decisions play out in automated combat. It is the kind of design that initially feels straightforward but gradually reveals more nuance as you begin to understand how different systems interact. The core loop revolves around alternating phases of decision-making and execution. Before each encounter, you are given access to a shop where you can recruit units, purchase upgrades, and refine your overall strategy using limited resources. Once your lineup is assembled, you position your units on a grid-based battlefield, carefully considering placement, spacing, and directional orientation. After reading both positive & negative reviews for the main game, i decided to give the demo a try. There's too many discrepancies for this game to be fun, i.e., its more frustrating than fun and needed design mechanics are out of order. I finally gave up (now) after encountering a bug: i beat a boss & chose a special reward, that next turn, i would receive a free lvl 2 troop. I didn't. I didn't get S**t, except have my time wasted with this garbage game. This game is all about character placement & each character has a placement preset (ie 4x4, 3x2) that does NOT synchronize with your other characters--meaning that you'll always have odd free space that cannot be used due to the placement of characters which arrived first. To make matters worse, units can't swap places with other units allowing to you combo and free up space to add other fitting characters....EXCEPT that they can. During the tutorial, i ran out of space needed to place a toon "outside" of the border (to bypass the "cannot swap toons"), but i would unlock that feature like ten battles ahead. Each character has a special ability and you have to upgrade units by purchasing the same unit multiple times. Howev…
it is a very fun stratigic game and i suuper recomend it very good love it!
Good Game
Prologue is fun enough. I guess it's good if you like auto-battlers, which I don't. Feels like something I'd find on my cell phone.
This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ phenomenal. However I hate the Chaos Lord with a passion, he could never be like the General.
