About Kurokami-sama's Feast

Story

Domaru is a young manga artist just trying to survive after his work was discontinued. He joins a group dedicated to learning about spirits, yokai and the occult in order to find new material for his next story. But, there is one urban legend that especially catches his eye – the tale of Kurokami-sama.

Domaru's curiosity takes hold, but he quickly learns there's wisdom to the phrase "be careful what you wish for" when his investigation leads him to the real Kurokami-sama. She spares his life on one condition – he must hunt down the other yokai, slay them, and bring them back to her. But Kurokami-sama is as capricious as they come, and she won't hesitate to send Domaru to an early grave if he makes even a single mistake.

Subject to the whims of a powerful yet beautiful creature, what will Domaru do? Serve her eternally, or fight for his freedom?

Gameplay

Kurokami-sama is a powerful being, shrouded in mystery, who has cursed you with the duty to hunt the otherworldly monsters that lurk in the dark corners of Tokyo. On your journey, you will meet a wide variety of supernatural entities from creatures of urban legends to beasts of ancient folklore.

During your hunt for these monsters you'll have access to a parameter called "spiritual energy" which can be used to read minds or launch devastating attacks. The player will have to decide when to strategically use this limited ability to overcome the obstacles and battles that you may face. Complete your tasks and you'll be rewarded, but Kurokami-sama can be as cruel as she is beautiful. It would be unwise to get on her bad side.

Kurokami-sama's Feast is an adventure visual novel with mystery and danger around every corner. Players will explore the streets of Japan in search of clues to find the monsters that live among us. The cast of characters are brought to life with stunning artwork accompanied by a heart-pumping original musical score; with a memorable story by writer Takahiro, known for his work on Akame ga Kill, Majikoi, and Release the Spyce.

The player's choices have real consequences that affect the outcome of the story. Will you find the monsters and please Kurokami-sama, or disobey her will and face her wrath? With multiple endings to experience, you'll want to replay the game to unlock them all.

The game was decent. It took me about 2.4 hours to clear my first pass. This was me playing with rampant save scumming as I tried to get through each week without burning too much spirit energy. I discovered that each monster you face has different results when you face them with different partners. Some spirits can be defeated by your partners without using your own power and still leave behind monster food. Those are really the golden ones and the paths you want to find because spirit energy regenerates really slowly and if you rely only on that, you won't get much food. This is less a game and more of a visual novel so it lives or dies on its story. The story isn't that interesting though. Not much really happens. You run around with the other Scoobies and fight monsters. Kurokami is probably the most fleshed out of all the characters but even she doesn't receive much characterization. The plot is pretty much what you expect: a demon or whatever forces you to hunt down monsters to feed her. The writing is bare bones and that's a problem for a visual novel. I'll probably try to play through a second time to see if I can get a 'good' ending (or maybe I did get the good ending, I d…

This is a review in progress. I like to jot down my thoughts so I don't forget so I will update this review when I know when I am satisfied. This game is a visual novel. If you are reading this review then you probably know what that is and you already know if this type of game is what you're looking for. Expect a lot of reading. The main setup for the story is that you are a manga-ka who hates raccoons and is bad at making manga about killing raccoons. One thing leads to another and you join an occult club and parts of you are replaced with parts of Kurokami-sama, a powerful demon who chose you to go out and kill other demons and then use their corpses to prepare a feast so she can eat them and become more powerful and then escape her prison. The usual story. Kurokami-sama's Feast has plenty of reading but it also has what I'm calling a "daily planner" mode where you are given a set number of action points and spiritual energy and have to manage both to make sure you kill enough demons before your action points run out so Kurokami-sama won't get all mad and kill you. The way it works is that you have a list of known demon sightings in your email and a list of locations you ca…

Cute horror adventure game, a bit too light on story but all the different Yokai and the endings make it worth the asking price. The artwork is nice and the game has a good amount of event CGs, shame the game doesn't have a gallery to view the CGs after completing it. It's made on unity but surprisingly is a lot less stable and missing normal quality of life features compared to previous Minatosoft/Minato Carnival titles. Depending on how many endings you go for you'll probably get 2-5 hours from this. Overall I recommend.

Developed by みなとカーニバルWorld and published by JAST, Kurokami-sama's Feast is a supernatural visual novel that combines Japanese folklore, suspense, and interactive investigation into a story that goes beyond the traditional point-and-click narrative format. Instead of relying entirely on dialogue and branching conversations, the game introduces light gameplay mechanics that make players feel like active participants in the unfolding mystery. Set against the backdrop of modern Japan, it presents a world where myths and urban legends quietly coexist with everyday life, creating an atmosphere that remains intriguing from beginning to end. The story follows Domaru, a manga artist whose career has stalled, prompting him to seek inspiration in the world of paranormal legends. His search unexpectedly leads him to Kurokami-sama, a mysterious supernatural entity who binds him to a deadly agreement. To stay alive, Domaru must hunt yokai and deliver them to her, transforming his ordinary existence into a dangerous mission filled with fear, uncertainty, and moral dilemmas. The narrative gradually expands beyond its initial premise, revealing hidden truths about both Kurokami-sama and the supern…

Managed to get two of the endings and, to be honest, I'm not really interested to see more of them. There's too much repetition and too much skipping to do. I'm satisfied with what I achieved and the amount of story I could uncover.

6/10 - This was a pretty short (under 6 hrs) detective style monster hunting visual novel. Very light on story and you basically just try to hunt monsters for four weeks until you deal with the boss monster.
