Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered

It's hard giving a classic Legacy of Kain game a negative review, and man... I really appreciate that this was remastered to help push this IP into the modern era. However, this was one of my least beloved of the original games - and now, I think I can see why, much more clearly. Despite bringing Kain and Raziel together as co-protagonists for the first time, it just isn't fun. It's a rehash of previous games without much new to offer in regards to mechanics, gameplay, or even lore, really. It's just more of the same and merging the two characters into one game is more of a gimmick than anything else. And maybe, this is my own sad realization that this series was best left in the past.

For some reason, this game never reached my country when I was a kid back in 2003. Now, 23 years later, I’ve finally played and finished it for the first time. The story has come full circle for me, and everything finally makes sense. If you appreciate beautifully written lore, I highly recommend checking out the included comics and the History of Nosgoth bonus section before jumping in—along with playing Soul Reaver 1 and 2. In terms of gameplay, Defiance is light-years ahead of its predecessors. It addresses everything the earlier titles lacked (and were plagued by): you get a functional map, helpful hints, and fast-paced combat and gameplay. While combat can get a bit repetitive due to a limited move set, the overall action is wonderfully fluid. I also noticed the ability to run past most standard encounters, except for locked arena fights where clearing the room is required. The option to toggle between two camera modes adds a great sense of perspective. The hint system was a lifesaver—holding down LT points the camera directly toward your next objective, which saved me tons of time (though relying on it too heavily means you might miss hidden collectibles). Loved the story. gameplay was fine. Hopefully these remasters make the devs prepare a new one.

It's actually my fav of the series and in my opinion better remaster than the first two! Just be aware that you have to finnish the previous ones otherwhise you'll feel lost.

Good ol' Defiance. Skins are a nice addition.
