If you grew up playing Micro Machines, this toy-car racer brings back some major nostalgia. The tracks and minigames are pretty fun, and pulling back your car to charge it up is a neat mechanic. That said, the physics feel super floaty, which can make steering a total nightmare at times. It’s a blast for a quick couch co-op session with friends, but the single-player gets boring pretty quickly.9 found this helpful
I'd say Mad Tracks is a hidden gem, but it's not really hidden except maybe for North American audiences (I never heard of it). It's a fun game to get 100% achievements and you don't need to play with another person to do it, which is something that initially held me back from purchasing it. There's a splitscreen achievement but the 2nd player is mapped to the keyboard so you really can't fail at it. What I loved about this game was the sheer variety and creativity. Micro Machines on PS1 gave me a similar vibe. This game takes a lot of creative liberties and blurs the line in an almost surrealistic way that may or may not have been intentional. Sometimes it feels like you're racing tiny cars across a restaurant, but other times it feels like the cars are normal size as they race through caves and glaciers. Some levels sit kind of in the middle, like one where you are crossing rooftops and the roofs are sort of bent to resemble designed tracks and it's not even clear what the design concept was. This game is mostly easy except for a few brutal achievements. I played all the stages on hard and I breezed through most of them, though some are just outright designed to ruin you s…1 found this helpful
If you’re thinking about buying this game, stop thinking and just get it. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, and I’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours on it. I first played it as a kid on an old computer nearly 20 years ago. Unfortunately, I lost the account I used back then, so my current playtime doesn’t even come close to showing how many hours I’ve actually put into this game. It might seem a little boring when you play alone, but with friends, it never gets old. I know every map by heart and could probably drive through them with my eyes closed. The most fun I ever had was playing split-screen, setting the maximum number of bots, choosing the fastest cars, and loading up the Titanic map. Those matches were absolute chaos in the best possible way. The only downside is that the game is no longer receiving updates.1 found this helpful
