In Master of Magic you take up the role of one of 14 unique and diverse great wizards who compete with each other to dominate the worlds of Arcanus and Myrror.
Choose from different schools of magic and fantasy races to command, then lead your minions and expand your influence and power across the land.
Recruit and command mighty armies of elves, dragons, dwarves, orcs and many more. Support them with powerful spells. Fight tactical turn-based battles and affect the outcome with your magic.
Research new spells, engage in alchemy, perform rituals and use your arcane powers to change the world around you.
Always beware of the machinations of your rival wizards, who seek to reach your same goals. But in the end, remember: there can be only one Master of Magic.

I finally got around to playing this. I see it has had multiple patches. I'm exploring the map (about 115 minutes it reports) - the game crashed on me. Was it the game, my video driver, something else? IDK. I just know I have played the game Valheim for over 800 hours and never had a single crash. Sigh - had hopes for the game, but life is too short for games that crash.1 found this helpful
I never played original MoM. However I played the hell out of its spiritual successors which are Age Of Wonders 1 and 2. That basically is the same game but better: more spells, more units, more races, more tactical combats, even the UI is the same. What change is in AoW you do not have to build 10000 towns across the map, nor to capture 10000 towns when fighting an opponent. This version is basically the original game with modern graphics. It is pretty, no doubt, but the gameplay is from another time. Do yourself a favor and grab Age of Wonders 2, it is cheaper and wayyyyy better... and not ugly at all even by today standards1 found this helpful

Incredible remake of one of my favorite games of all time. While the remake will never be able to reach the amount of hours and joy the original brought me... this game is true to the spirit of the game and adds a wonderful modern engine and a lot of really fun features. I was a massive MOM fanboy back in the day, and love this remake. It was rough around the edges at launch, but it is polished and a beloved addition to my library now. Not a lot of remakes of classic games capture the soul of the original as well as this game does.
I'm still learning the game, it did take me a bit as I am not familiar with the actual game, the mechanics are a learning method that is not to bad. Reading the manual and watching some youtube vids can help.
