About Midnight Saga: The Monster
The Midnight Saga: The Monster is a thrilling 355,000 word interactive fantasy horror novel by C.C. Hill, where your choices control the story. The game is text-based, with artwork to show key moments of the story, fantastical creatures, and a variety of monsters that you will meet along your journey.
Halloween, trick-or-treat, spooky décor, and all the candy you can eat. That’s the plan for the night before you head home to babysit your niece and nephew, but things don’t always turn out as planned. Whisked away from your own timeline, you need to fight monsters before you can return home. While you’re at it, collect weapons or craft additional ones, eat your favorite candy, and learn the real story behind a spooky children’s tale. Uncover the meaning of your birthmark, and above all else, discover your destiny.
- Play as Cis, Trans, or Non-binary; gay, straight, bi, ace, aromantic, or poly.
- Fully customized your character. (You can even name specific body parts for optional steamy scenes)
- Enjoy family time and bonding with your niece and nephew: you get to pick how they address you throughout the entire game.
- Make friends, fall in love, or just watch them fall flat on their faces as they run for their lives.
- Fight terrifying monsters, go on patrols, explore a new dimension, collect items, and encounter fantastical creatures.
- Wreck monsters! Or leave them for dead.
- Unlock a secret scene by not dying in a single playthrough.
- Pick out one of the three endings that change in major ways depending on the actions you take and the relationships you build.
The shadows have red eyes and sharp fangs! And you? Will your weapon last?

Players appreciate the engaging story, likeable characters, and accessible writing that works well for non-native English readers, but criticize the rushed pacing, particularly in later acts, and poor narrative execution with plot elements that feel unearned or underexplained. The game suffers from awkward world-building where major concepts are introduced without proper context or character reaction, and a sense of being railroaded through predetermined plot points rather than experiencing organic storytelling.
I ignored the negative reviews, and shouldn't have. It has a bunch of flaws, more flaws than positives. Other reviewers have hit upon a number of points, but I want to zero in on one aspect of the story that is illustrative of the problem as a whole. Not too far in, you learn that you have ill-defined powers, and are a "Warden." It's not made clear whether these powers can be used in the real world or only in the "Keeper's timeline." It's also something that is introduced and is immediately accepted and remarked upon, e.g. a character being like "Wow I can't believe you're a Warden," when that character had no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ a Warden was like, yesterday. I'd liken it to if nobody had ever heard of Star Wars, and I told them I am a Jedi. The reactions and process of acceptance should be along the lines of "So you say you're some kind of space wizard? And you have a laser sword?" It shouldn't just be an immediate shift in worldview to accommodate not just concepts of magic and multiple realities and people with powers. It takes time to process, not just as characters but also as a player. First I'm telling scary stories then the scary stories are real then I have powers then I …6 found this helpful
It's easy to read so it's a good choice for non English native to practice English reading skill.Besides, the smut is good3 found this helpful
This game was such a weird experience for me. I really enjoyed the story and everything that entails it and I'm looking forward for the next books in the series. But the narrative and the pacing are so weird to me. Like, I really liked it, the characters are sweet, the story is interesting and all, but some of the descriptions and the pacing of the last acts were so... Rushed? Anyway, I enjoyed it, and hope to see more of it. Just perhaps if the pacing gets fixed, it will be a way better experience2 found this helpful
The story was going fine then
the cavalry you did not even know existed saves you.
Are you kidding me I invested my time for that ending.2 found this helpful
While I love the story and concept of this game, the actual execution is somewhat lacking and doesn't live up to the standard of other games released by the developer. The writing is quite clunky and lacks subtlety and elegance, while the gameplay often feels like you're being railroaded through a set plot. Ultimately, there's a lot of potential here, but the execution is lacking and lets down the experience.1 found this helpful
The writing is good. The characters are fantastic, and I want to spend more time with them. The story is overall very fun, I can't wait for a sequel.
