worst solitaire mini game I've ever played3 found this helpful
Its not too much incremental per se. But it is fun. For a while. 5.5/10. Get it on sale.
7.9/10 Incremental games are a category of game I used to really dislike. I often would play them for maybe 30 minutes at most and then go back to something far more action based like skyrim. But in recent years I've found them very comforting and one of my favorite types of games to play in my older age. MMO98 is no exception to this, providing that typical gameplay you can zone out to as you master its, admittedly sometimes a bit more confusing than I'd like, systems and watch your numbers skyrocket. Story Usually in my reviews I'll divide up games into categories of story, gameplay, and audio. But in a game like MMO98, there isn't exactly a story involved so I'll exclude that portion for this particular review. I will say however that the fact that there is a minimal story is ideal in a case like this as it is in most clicker games. You're a game dev running servers and dealing with bugs in your MMO game. There's a visual on screen akin to games like Old School Runescape but it doesn't actually affect the game itself. Although I found this sort of blank slate to be rather fun, being able to come up with my own headcanon of sorts as to how my studio got started, what my games …
It's a fun incremental game. Short, well crafted for the price, and a neat aesthetic. Soundtrack is good and it doesn't spend too long at the "ugh I just need 1 more achievement that I have to wait ages for" phase. If you want to try a new incremental game, it's worth it. Won't take you long. The flavour is lacking though, feeling more like a skin than really baked into the gameplay. Sure you can open a dashboard and see players around a low poly market, and the little IRC is fun if a little repetitive, but it doesn't quite feel like you're developing an MMO in '98 so much as a bunch of fantasy games that happen to have an online chat. Sequels being the reset gimmick stands out the most to me. MMOs are ancient monoliths that last seemingly forever, they don't tend to get sequels (I don't think there's a top 5 MMO right now thats been out for less than 10 years). My indie studio in this playthrough has made 15. I would've preferred more focus on expansions, moderation, content patches than starting over - but this is a boring nitpick and also kinda goes against how incremental games work, so whatever. Overall the game is more focused on the '98 than the MMO, and I can't blame the d…
Pretty fun game, one of the better incrementals imo. would have been nice to have more instruction to know how much data you're collecting as you play
Please Please Please enable workshop, would be lovely for custom community artwork for the game disc generations
