In this game you explore various cave systems to carry out the will of your robotic benefactor “Mother”. Each player controls an adorable gremlin who lives to jump, climb, roll, smash and eat their way through the environment to reach the end. There are some predetermined runs that are used to carry out the story narrative but essentially you just choose the difficulty level of the cave and each run is a procedurally generated self-enclosed “expedition”. Cosmetic unlocks are the only thing that the “energy” points are used for other than paying for re-spawns during a run. Oh yeah, did I mention that the Gremlins get squished and printed out of a printer again each time they die? Don’t worry about it, get spelunking! Some things that could have made it better: There really needed to be much more levels with a scripted story as without them there isn’t that much to do, eventually it’s the same thing over and over. Once you play the game for a bit you will notice the patterns in the layouts and obstacles being reused. Having only a single slot for a power-up means that you basically choose a health one and it becomes impossible to die unless you fall into an acid pit. Also, dyin…3 found this helpful
Haven't played this solo, however great Split Screen for those playing with family members or friends on same device. Really fun and engaging game. The creatures are cute and customisable though you do need to earn the energy points to purchase the different options. Fun animations when balancing near an edge or just leaving character idle. Story as well is steadily developing and interesting. Only thing at this time would comment on improving is that in split screen mode although it seems to allow you to choose different mutation abilities, Player 1's choice is the dominant one, and will auto change the other players chosen mutation ability once the mission starts.2 found this helpful
Mother Machine is a cooperative roguelike platformer developed and published by Maschinen-Mensch. Known for creating atmospheric adventure titles, the studio takes a very different direction here by focusing on chaotic multiplayer exploration inside procedurally generated alien caves. The game combines elements of side-scrolling platformers, roguelike progression, and cooperative sandbox gameplay. Rather than presenting a strictly linear adventure, it encourages players to repeatedly venture into unpredictable cave systems, gather resources, evolve their strange creatures, and uncover fragments of the world’s mysterious past. The story is intentionally unconventional and somewhat mysterious. Players assume the role of bizarre gremlin-like creatures created by a massive artificial intelligence known simply as the Mother Machine. This ancient machine inhabits a distant planet and continuously produces these small creatures in order to explore and harvest resources from the planet’s vast underground cave networks. Each expedition is essentially an experiment carried out by the machine, sending its creations deeper into the planet’s dangerous ecosystems. While the narrative remains mo…1 found this helpful

This was decent fun right up until it crashed 4 times for the entire team right after a boss and none of us got credit, preventing us from proceeding and wasting a bunch of our time. It wasn't fun enough for us to go back and see if the patch fixed it.1 found this helpful
I may have 30 minutes of playtime at the time of writing this review and also gotten it as a gift, however: This game is has been pretty fun despite being a bit difficult, it is also silly!
