About MOTHERED - A ROLE-PLAYING HORROR GAME

SYNOPSIS:
MOTHERED is a first-person horror adventure game with point-and-click mechanics, set in a familiar yet eerily unnatural depiction of home. Set over the course of seven days, you play the role of LIANA - a young girl who's arrived home to stay with her mother after having undergone major surgery.

Upon arriving at your new home, all you find is a strange mannequin who claims to be your mother. Through speaking with this mannequin, you will discover more about the role you play in this world. Can Liana help mother go back to the things they were, or will you find yourself repeating past mistakes?

FEATURING:
  • A dense, engaging narrative that gradually reveals itself over the course of 7 days, each with a morning, afternoon, evening and night time.
  • An immersive, tense atmosphere that makes use of the uncanny to tell a story that will keep you guessing until the credits roll.
  • The possibility of breaking the cycle and finding your own path?

I have to preface this review with the good so I don't feel like a hater. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere, pacing and intentionally confusing writing of the game, to a point. The constant "WHAT IS GOING ON?!?" and mix of mild scares worked really well. What didn't work so well was when you actually dig into the gameplay, such as it is. All you get to really do is follow the often poorly signposted clues to interact with one specific thing to gain progression. AND THIS IS WHERE THE GAME GOES OFF THE FU##ING RAILS. IF YOU MAKE ONE CHOICE IN THE ENDING SEQUENCE, THE GAME RESTARTS ON YOU BACK AT DAY ONE. If there's one thing you should NEVER do as a developer, it's intentionally waste the player's time. Especially in a horror game where pacing and tension are balanced on a knife edge, you have to be careful to keep the player engaged. If there's a single point where the player feels like they wasted 3 hours, they're going to be very angry with you. Guess how I felt.

Whelp. It was a pretty cool experience for a while. Unfortunately, I was softlocked out of my ending for an unknown reason. Everywhere I looked, no solutions. Watching another person playthrough, their ending was triggered at the exact spot mine was supposed to, mine just didn't work. Super unfortunate because I was enjoying the game up until that. Now I'm left looking up the endings to the game instead of playing it myself. The previous game in the trilogy had problems, but at least I could finish it. This has just made me frustrated. Onto the next one I suppose.

God tier game. This is not a mannequin haunted house game. It is a haunting look at grief that will stick with you long after it's over. Cannot recommend enough and one of the best horror scifi games ever made, also no jump scares which is nice. Just get this game immediately.

Excellent story-driven horror game. Never played anything like it.

Walking sim with a lot of blocked paths at all times. If you want to complete all of the trophies you need to check everything everywhere at every interactions you do, which is an enormous waste of time, because 99% of the time you'll run into a dead end (or a locked door in this case). So you ultimately you'll need to watch or read a walkthrough to find where to go at very precise moments. In fact, the story is kind of dragging on for longer than it should, so why not just watch a video of the entire gameplay and skip this purchase instead? Also, Enigma Machine had some puzzles, and SOME shooting (although the bug won't let you use it), but somehow in this 2nd volume, there's just less of everything. Visually and soundwise, this game's legit, but content-wise -- you rrreally don't get much. This thing should be free.. So far this trilogy is such a huge let down... The Enigma Machine had a walkthrough break that wouldn't let me finish it. This one is somehow less of a game than the previous Enigma Machine... Guess I'll play the next one because I bought the trilogy in a bundle, but I expect to be disappointed...
