STORY
At the beginning of the 20th century, a conflict known as The Great War ravaged Europe, destroying most of its cities and wiping off an entire generation of adult men and women.Amidst the ruins of old Europe, teenagers fight a war they themselves didn't start.After experiencing a revealing dream, 19-year-old sergeant Maria Strauss decides she will do whatever it takes to stop the war. Will she succeed where so many others have failed?...In this highly innovative and experimental visual novel, we have done something few others have tried: we took inspiration directly from early 20th century art to create a narrative that portrays the horrors of war properly, all the while still remaining loyal to the famous anime aesthetics and its tropes.CHARACTERS
Maria Strauss is a 19-year-old German sergeant. The daughter of a college professor, she is well-read and has a good understanding of philosophy and literature. She likes to go to the theatre and opera houses. She also enjoys playing the violin in her spare time.Erika Barkhausen is a 23-year-old German corporal. She hails from a family of farmers from the Rhineland. Although not a particularly well-educated person, she sometimes displays a kind of rustic peasant wisdom which makes up for her lack of higher learning.Gustav Hoffmann is a corporal in the German army and a friend of both Erika Barkhausen and Maria Strauss.What Steam players say

I like concept of this game, I don't think I've ever seen a VN mixed with philosophy! But I cannot stand the references to Fichte and Hegel! #AynRandGang2 found this helpful
To put it short this visual novel definitely puts more weight on the novel part of the game, you don't ever even have any choices you need to make. If you are looking for a nice book to read while bored then just ignore the rest of this review and jump in. To put it long, I am mixed. At first a visual novel on WWI implied to me to have a lot of action, I think due to that expectation the start felt very slow. That being said even with no expectation. This is a VERY slow game. You will spend long stretches of time staring at the same (admittedly well crafted) background image, as you read text after text that isn't even dialogue. Most of the text will be spent exploring different philosophies. political philosophy, humanity's purpose in the world, the point/lessness of war, etc ect. personally I felt it was dragged on at times, for example the very start of the game is a good ~10minutes of just reading about how pointless war feels/is. I. get. it. and it's a shame because it's not like the points are explored poorly. The text in this game is very well crafted and thought out. I feel a little bad criticizing it because it's much more articulated then I could have ever done. BUT It…2 found this helpful
