A game for real pirates. I love it! A warning for those who want to buy the game. Its interesting, but its unfinished! And judging by the fact that there hasnt been a sequel to the story for years, it won't be coming out

Neighboring Islands is a modest, story-driven indie visual novel that leans into a classic pirate adventure framework while offering players a degree of narrative control through branching choices. Developed by Angry Games and Total, and published by Total, the game positions itself as a lightweight interactive experience rather than a mechanically complex title. It doesn’t attempt to compete with larger, more polished visual novels, but instead focuses on delivering a concise tale shaped by player decisions, with varying outcomes that encourage exploration of different paths. At the heart of the experience is its narrative, which follows a pirate caught in the aftermath of a mutiny and forced into survival on unfamiliar islands. The story unfolds through dialogue and decision points, with each choice subtly or significantly altering the direction of events. While the premise relies on familiar pirate tropes—betrayal, survival, shifting alliances—it manages to maintain a steady sense of progression. The branching structure is one of the game’s stronger elements, giving players a reason to revisit the story and experiment with different decisions to uncover alternate endings. Howev…

This is actually a pretty decent choose your own adventure about survival on the seas and on islands filled with hostile clans and jungle fauna. You'll bounce between several characters after experiencing a shipwreck and being stranded on an island and found by the locals there. It's actually quite grim a lot of the time, with various choices to make about what to do along the length of the story with many choices actually affecting the plot and providing some pretty interesting if macabre death scenarios and game overs. The characters although could be more fleshed out are generally interesting, even if the dialogue itself can be a little stilted and roughly translated, with some errors. It seems this game was translated from Russian, and despite that as an English speaker I still found the writing to be pretty well thought out and engaging even with some odd line deliveries/wording. Sometimes the translations or odd phrasing will lead to the script being unintentionally funny, and it made me laugh several times, at least the characters show some personality, crack some jokes while at the same time delivering dramatic lines that are appropriate for this pirateish type of adventu…
