About VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action

✦ AI summary

Pour drinks for fascinating customers at a downtrodden cyberpunk bar, where your mixology choices organically shape branching stories and reveal the humanity beneath a dystopian world. This narrative-driven bartending sim uses retro PC-98 aesthetics with modern flair to create deeply personal connections that feel earned rather than prescribed.

VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action is a booze em' up about waifus, technology, and post-dystopia life.

In this world, corporations reign supreme, all human life is infected with nanomachines designed to oppress them, and the terrifying White Knights ensure that everyone obeys the laws.

But, this is not about those people.

You are a bartender at VA-11 HALL-A, affectionately nicknamed "Valhalla." Although it is just a small bar downtown, it attracts the most fascinating people this side of dystopia. Keep your clients lubricated and you will be made privy to the most interesting stories.

---

"Although there aren't dialogue options, VA-11 HALL-A creates a storytelling experience that's grippingly personal. If, like many game theorists argue, story should always act as a supporter to mechanics, then VA-11 HALL-A is the exception that makes the rule." - Kill Screen

"Never falls into the trap of simply alternating “gameplay” and “story” as so many narrative-based games do; rather, everything you do feels relevant to what is unfolding in front of you." - Moe Gamer

"It's through these brief, unguarded conversations that the cyberpunk bartending sim slowly unfolds its story; not of a dystopian world, but of the people living in it." - PC Gamer

---
 • Learn about daily life in the cyberpunk dystopia of Glitch City.
 • A branching storyline where your decisions do not depend on traditional choices, but through the drinks you prepare.
 • Visuals inspired by old Japanese adventure games for the PC-98, with a modern touch for an otherworldly experience.
 • Get to know your clients, their tastes, and prepare the drink that will change their lives.

Tl;Dr (CW: p*dophilia and inc*st mentioned) if you came looking for a cozy game, just be aware of the fact there is a character who is
literally a robot with the body of a 13 year-old who is a s3x worker who in your first interaction w/ gratuitously solicits s3x from you and alludes to the details of s3xual acts people engage in w/ her. There's apparently also a character who talks about how her dad pretended they were dating on a night out and that it was fun, to which your character responds by saying "your dad sounds cool"
Gives "men writing women" in the derogatory sense. If this sounds icky, which I hope it does lol, stay away from this game. I've had a fondness for this game for almost 10 years. I've somehow spent hours on this game, even though I only made it to Night 2 just today (though I have beat both of the add-on chapters in another life). Something about the aesthetic, and oh god that wonderful music which I've listened to for countless hours - even though I hardly progressed in the game ever, has offered me so much comfort over the years. Just seeing that little desktop icon and knowing I've got a cozy game to come back to whenever I need. So …

I bought this game when it was supported on MacOS. Had a lot of fun and was in the middle of playing, then it just didn't support MacOS any more. Is there no way to continue to play except to buy a Windows?

The main character is just a 304, she deserves the Crappy Ending. Dorothy and Jaime need their own assassin spin-off game.

this game does an amazing job, not only at mixing drinks, but at mixing dystopian themes with the soft underbelly of what it means to be human. i found that each and every character, whether it be a floating brain or a buff mercenary, was humanized through their imperfections and the compassion they show to Jill and others. the story was very well-written, and found myself at moments, relating to many individuals as they navigate the rough sociopolitical atmosphere of Glitch City. despite how horrible our quality of life may become in the future, this game confidently refutes the idea that sympathy will wither entirely with it.

Amazing writing, amazing music, amazing mechanics. Just a masterpiece all around. In fact, it was so good that I replayed it entirely immediately after finishing it the first time. The coziest game I've played thus far. 10/10
