For a roguelite, it has a slow and difficult start, and initially there isn't a lot of feedback as to when or how you get permanent upgrades between runs. You may get the impression that it's construction is lazy or it's difficulty and obfuscation is needless. If you stick with it, there is a strict design language, and you will experience mastery of the mechanics and deeply satisfying discoveries. As soon as you rise above the challenge there will be more to scratch the itch, as well as easier routes to god builds where you can still be progressing universal unlocks. There is a very cheesy yet fun cakewalk if you want it, and there is constant gradual challenge if you want it too, and I felt like every really good new bit had just enough challenge without frustration - but be prepared that the first few runs is one of those challenges. great game took me forever lol. didn't fully complete it but beat the no skin man
I went into this game completely blind, knowing nothing. I didn't know the game was a roguelite. I beat 100% on my second run and died to what I assume is the final boss, but the game is such a mystery to me at this point that there will be more runs. Gameplay wise, the items are good enough to give you real meat on runs, I obviously haven't played enough to say how wide the variety is, but both of my runs were different. The one complaint I would have is that it is entirely possible to finish the first zone without encountering a shop, I see other reviews complain that a run is made or broken based on if you get a shop/blessing or not. The art is beautiful, the way the game encapsulates the feeling of, and I'm not kidding, living in an undergraduate dorm, despite being a game about an eldritch monster placing a curse on you, is unmatched. Maybe I'm just projecting here, but I can't really describe this game any better than that. The horror is a mixed bag, aside from the art and the setting, in my hour the game didn't do anything to particularly "scare" you, but what do you call the genre of a man with no skin? Horror is a good descriptor, just don't expect anything that will k…
