Oddventure

Goes without saying, but wait until this game is out of early access. I thought there would be a bit more to uncover, but there isn't. Right now the game ends just as things were getting interesting. This review is subjected to change when the game is fully complete. There are about two routes to play in this game. An optimism route, and a pessimism route. I did the pessimism route first as I felt it was a more appropriate path to take for the player character. This included, [spoiler] leaving the dwarf brother to die by the wolf, disengaging with the goose conflict, and killing the fox in the cave. [/spoiler] This game is very reminiscent of another game in which you have the choice to spare or kill every monster you come across. However, unlike this other game, the combat in Oddventure is tedious and frustrating. There is two ways to deal with enemies. Either kill them or compliment them until they leave. When the enemy holds up a white flag, they will skip a turn and you have the chance to spare them. If you fight enemies and they raise the flag, the next hit will surely kill them. A year with no word, no updates, nothing. It's starting to seem like a cash grab on the back of Earthbound, play Earthbound Encore, it's free and its 100x better.

They nailed the atmosphere of the game overall, from the jokes to the emotions you feel throughout playing, alongside the battle system being unique as well. If you've played Earthbound/Mother, I definitely recommend

[For clarification, I did back this game on kickstarter] Unlike one other game, I feel oddventure does some things right while having baffling ommissions that drag it down for me. For starters, I don't like the way the audio settings aren't in the main menu settings, that's baffling for me, honestly, the settings should be unified being able to be changed in game too. Another thing is a lack of auto save of some sort or more saves in general. For example, the fox dungeon is a long slog and while you can retry from the boss, if you kill the boss when you didn't intend to, your out of luck and need to try again trekking through the long dungeon again. I feel this is a good game mostly, but these several things need to be worked on to make it a great game. Overall, not disappointed with what's here and am glad to have played what I could, but that fox boss dungeon made me put the game down cause the lack of saves.....also the fact you can't reset the puzzle rooms infuriate me.

a game thats undertale like? very weird I have only ever been able to play about 30mins to an hour before getting bored and leaving. I think its just due to the gnome butcheeks and me not wanting to post that to youtube. other than that I think the game is ok just very strange and is trying too hard to be like earthbound or undertale.

I absolutely love this game! I am a bit sad that there isn’t much content yet, but I think it’s worth waiting for. It’s heavily influenced by games like Undertale, OMORI, Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, and EarthBound, and it really shows in the atmosphere and storytelling. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. That said, it is a little expensive considering there’s no clear timeline for when more content will be released. I can’t wait to see where this game goes!
