About Weirdlands
A lockdown during a crisis. You can't go anywhere. At least not until a portal to a magical land opens in your bedroom. Weirdlands is an RPG inspired by classics like Final Fantasy, Earthbound, Undertale, etc., but it's also very much its own thing. You can recruit or capture pretty much any enemy you fight. The stronger, unique spirits have their own personalities and storylines. They can absorb other spirits you capture, gaining their abilities. With combining spirits like that, you can find combinations that work best for you, and even some hidden combos. There is a proper point & click inventory with proper point & click items for solving proper point & click puzzles, but since it is an RPG, you can solve most puzzles in different ways, often with brute force, just make sure your brawn stat is high enough. After you finish the game (or by turning it on in the options), you can start a new game+, which dramatically changes both story and game mechanics, giving you a very different experience. There is a huge amount of lore to uncover, both through the story itself and by exploring and finding hidden hints about what is going on in the world(s).

This game has rapidly become one of my favourite games of all time, the art is charming, the game wants you to think for yourself and not be on autopilot something sorely missed these days.
A unique creature collector where there are only so many varieties in the world, so they all serve a very unique purpose and interaction. The story is really cool and you get two stories for the price of one as the NG+ is completely different. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Good game, quite fun. If you can't figure out what to do, you have a journal in your book bag.
I loved weirdlands! I wish people knew more about it and honestly would love to make a guide. It is a beautiful mix of fantasy, sci-fi, activism, and intrigue. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and puts you in your place if you go the wrong way before you are ready. I adore it and wish I could play it again like I knew nothing again. The new game plus is an integral part of the game and even changes the story for the better. I absolutely loved it. I need and want more. I appreciate that it rewards you for speaking to everyone and doing everything. The only thing I will say is that I experienced some glitches fishing, especially when encountering the most rare type of fish. It made me not want to complete the fishing journal. I would love that to be patched for future players. Otherwise I loved everything.
I simply cannot recommend this game enough. The developer did an absolutely fantastic job for what looks like one of their first games. The story is poignant and fascinating. While some may not enjoy the lack of explicit instructions or hand holding, I found it truly delightful to explore the world. I'll come back to write a longer review later, but this little gem might have become one of my favourite games.
The thoroughly enjoyable nature of this unassuming little indie puzzle RPG/creature collector pleasantly surprised me! There are secret areas galore for the observant player to pursue, and because there are 0 guides (at the time of writing), finishing both stories is truly satisfying in a way few AAA games can compare. In the first playthrough you're a summoner who forces spirits into conscription, and in the second, a witch who befriends them; both playthroughs are necessary to get the whole story and truly "beat" the game. On my first attempt I initially got stuck and stopped playing, but after returning I discovered you can talk to your spirits and use your adventure book for hints on what needs to be done next. Every puzzle, goal, and secret area is 100% achievable if you explore enough for hidden paths/use the right items/investigate your surroundings, and it isn't very grindy at all. Later enemies also provide so much experipence that maxing out your stats isn't hard at all, especially on New Game+. Highly recommended for puzzle enjoyers and fans of nostalgic pixel RPGs who don't require having their hands held throughout!
