Omni Link

Roencia, they're a phenomenal artist. The art used in Omni Link (and later Crypterion) is legitimately top notch. Genuinely, I hope to find more of Roencia's art out and about, because it's very lovely and easy on the eyes. Their story telling? Pretty good, too, truly. Where you lose me is the gameplay and the [b]proofing[/b]. I played Omni Link originally in 2018 before it completed its Early Access. At the time, 3 chapters were completed, and you could finish up to the informant's "Party" event, then it cut to black and said "Neener neener, come back later." - so I shelved Omni Link with the expectation of returning. Well it turns out it came out of early access later in 2018 and I super missed that memo, having just poked at it again December 2022. Oops! The game apparently "updated" so much that old save games were not compatible, and that excited me! I was like, 'Holy cow there must be a lot of new stuff!' This also meant I had to replay the first 3 chapters, but, such is life. The game is finished with only 4 chapters, so I needed to theoretically replay 75% of the game. Having played this game myself, I've actually gone through several playthroughs of this story. Here is what I have to say. Cons- UI is limiting lack of options for settings lack of options of story pathing some cliches in story seem a little heavy handed (really not that bad but it's worth noting) Pros- unique top down ship shooter design welcomed ability to hot-swap ships very welcomed to deploy all ships currently available well thought out and engaging story well written and relatable characters while small, a good soundtrack. these are what I feel are the strongest and weakest points of the game. now onto my own bias. I absolutely loved this game, and if there's a sequel, I want it ASAP. I keep coming back to this game every now and then, and yes i only have 85 hours put into this game at the time of this review, but for the content that exists, I'd say that's pretty good all things considered. I want to see what happens in a sequel, I want to see how the story of Keb, Dawn, and Arcadia continues. And i especially want to see what new challenges comes our heroes' ways. Volume is controlled by windows volume mixer. No controller options. No mouse control for that matter either. This is a poor visual novel with a bad shoot 'em up bolted on. Ships handle like an elephant on roller skates.

I had this game in my sights since 2018, got around buying it in 2021 and finally got aorund playing it this month. I ended loving it, the character designs, the fleet-based gameplay and the simple but cute story.

Gameplay of Omni Link is quite the mixure of feelings. Movement and shooting are not that bad, but also not good enough to bring enjoyement to the process. Morph ability and own fleet are fun though. UI is fine, but not enough informative. Space itself, ship desings, stations and warp gates are on better side, and they work on the vibe quite well. Visual novel is what really picks the interest and keeps it until the very end. Good writing, memorable characters, beautiful art and music, songs are on their own level (real pleasure to the ears). And those manga pictures, great addition. Made with soul and it feels so. Now then, time to look for soundtrack.

The art is pretty and the gameplay seems to have a bit of depth to it. The writing leaves a bit to be desired, and the plot didn't hook me from the start, so I don't plan on continuing, but I could see a sci-fi fan loving it!
