About Orbital Strike VR

Orbital Strike VR is a space combat simulator built from the ground up for VR. This is indie VR so we can take some risks. Instead of a cockpit we launch you directly right out of the carrier and into beautiful fleet battles with intuitive hand-jet flight mechanics.

You will progress through a story-rich campaign that can be played as a single-player adventure or you can invite your friends at any time for some co-op action.

As a pilot for the Starfall fleet, you will serve as a hybrid role of fighter ace and forward observer. Close with the enemy and open a path for your fleet using a mixture of personal weapons to destroy corvettes, fighter escorts, turrets, and sub-systems. Then call in the your own capital ships, configure them on the fly, and command them against your enemy.

New pilots can expect a thrilling mix of space flight sim, first-person-shooter, and tactical RTS. All wrapped up in an immersive VR experience with great drop-in co-op support.

FEATURING...

  • Starfall Campaign: Unlock the secrets of Epsilon Indi with a fully voice acted campaign from an amazing cast!
  • Outbreak Survivor: A prequel mission that tells the story of Hibernia's final fight and the evacuation of the Beta Pegasi system. This is a challenging and replayable mission consisting of multiple waves, boss fights, and a frantic final encounter as you escort your fleet out of a doomed system.
  • Free-fly mode: A relaxing and (mostly) safe system to test out combat mechanics or socialize with your fellow pilots.
  • Drop-in online co-op: While all gamemodes are fully playable as a single-player experience, at any time you can invite your friends to fly and fight together.

Do you know how to fly using nothing but your arms? No? I think you'll find this game will show you otherwise. This game is as fast-paced as you want it to be. Good level of strategy involved; you can sit back and mastermind your AI assets through fights or you can dive in and get involved directly to do things like pin-point strikes on weapon hardpoints. There were a few points that had me stumped until I realised the latter was an option, and then it was a whole new game. The concept used here really could go deeper as a whole other game, but this is absolutely fine for what it is. I imagine the Outbreak mode, fighting off increasingly difficult waves of enemies while managing resources, is a lot of fun with friends. If you've played Freespace 2, imagine instead of a TAG missile you get to point your fist at a ship and watch it die in a blaze of coherent energy death. And it's called the "Command Dagger". Good times.

Man, I'm really sitting on the border with this one. Is it good..? kinda? Look, no hate to the devs or anything, but the actual minute-to-minute gameplay of this one is kinda meh. The idea is pretty cool, the atmosphere is nice, the story as I've seen it is... cliche, but perfectly fine. There are unfortunately quite a few things getting in the way of fun when it comes to this game though, it comes close to being fun, and I'm certain its very fixable, but these things just really hold the game back for me as the game is currently: Yes, space is big and empty, I get that, but is it really neccessary to fill the game with that much empty? The distance between points of interest is pretty dang far, often taking anywhere from a few, to several minutes pointing your hands directly where you want to go, and just waiting until you get there. Why can't travel be some fun little minigame with some kind of small challenge to boost your speed? It really doesn't make much sense to literally leave your player hanging for that long every time they want to go somewhere. This is worsened by the fact that you are in VR, and thus you must pay constant attention to the void of space to keep from go…

Heaps of fun. Good progression in weapons and enemies, and I'm only just getting started.
