Overclocked: The Aclockalypse is a small but imaginative action roguelike that builds nearly every aspect of its identity around clocks, time, and the chaos that follows when the natural order of chronology breaks down. Developed and published by Timewind LLC, the game approaches its apocalyptic scenario with a deliberately playful attitude rather than taking its premise too seriously. Its combination of twin-stick shooting, bullet-hell encounters, procedural dungeon exploration, and time manipulation creates an experience that is easy to understand but challenging to master. Although its limited scale keeps it from achieving the complexity of larger roguelikes, its unusual theme gives it a personality that is difficult to mistake for anything else. The story revolves around The Keeper, a guardian responsible for protecting the Eternal Sands and maintaining the proper flow of time. "Overclocked: The Aclockalypse" is an unusual isometric 2D contentless shoot 'em up (twin stick style) where you shoot waves of enemies in a weird clock themed world. Why is it clock themed? Nobody knows. Just because all the good ideas for video games are taken doesn't mean you have to resort using to bad ideas. What do you do in the game? Simple wave survival shooting with no meaningful progression, and no meaningful score attack either, leaving us all scratching our heads as to why any one would want to play this. On the topic of visuals, the weak looking 2D retro assets seem like they'd be more at home in a browser game or a mobile app. 3D graphics accelerators hit the mainstream of PC gaming in the mid 1990's with cards like the ATI Rage and Voodoo3D, there's no excuse for such poor 2D graphics in 2025. That alone is enough to disqualify this for recommendation. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on.
