About Overworld - Map Keeper's Realm
Overworld - Map Keeper’s Realm is world building software that focuses on large scale world creation and procedural generates lower levels that can be fine-tuned hex by hex. With it, you can quickly and easily sculpt your world, retain its history, and share it with others. Overworld’s propagating levels enables you to create and detail your whole world with a single map. Other features like searchable points of interest and labels breathe life into your world. Welcome to Map Keeper’s Realm!

World generation utilizes temperature maps to create biomes in realistic locations. The sliders allow users to customize the level of detail, temperature of the planet, number of islands, and the size of the landmass. Press the generation button as many times as you need until you find the perfect world to start with!

Points of interest bring your world to life. Take detailed notes about locations, player characters, parties, events, or items. POIs feature a tagging system that is searchable. Simply assign appropriate tags (such as the overarching kingdom, important rulers, characters, etc.) and search them when needed. Clicking on a searched POI jumps the camera to the POI's location.

Scaling levels are a core component of Overworld - Map Keeper's Realm. There are three main levels: World, Continent, and Region. Landmass created at the world level uses procedural generation to create a hex map at the continent level. The continent level generates the region level. Changes to each level propagate both down and up. POIs propagate across the continent and region level, too!

Updated 3/5/25 I tried to come back to this and it is just so buggy that I cannot use it. None of the tools work in a comprehensive way and the UI is always bugging. I will try again in another year. __________________________________________________________________________ Ok, this application is alright. If there was somewhere between a positive and negative review this would fit it. It is a good concept but poorly executed. One of the major issues is that this system is very poorly optimized. It does not run well and has a few bugs. The other issue, though a small one, is that it does lack variety and or tools. Building tiles are few so there is not a wide range of customization to your world. One continent will look identical to another. But bigger than that their is no wall tile/system. Also their is no bridge tile/system. The road system only has small dirt roads. All in all the idea is good, some of the tools are good, but it is lacking in some customization areas. The major things I want are more variety of tiles, specifically buildings. Better roads and bridges. A built in system to create unique building tiles, aka landmarks. MY BIGGEST issue is the price they are ask…9 found this helpful
I want to like this — I want to use this. Overworld was on my wishlist as soon as I found it, and I was happy to accept a testing key and provide feedback. Unfortunately Overworld remains a neat toy that is missing some crucial exporting options to make it usable for me. The exported map area is influenced by your zoom level and view position, with no way to consistently define them. If you want to export multiple images that tile, consistently export the same grid size for a VTT platform, or return to export the same image with new notes this isn't the tool for you. If you want a rather cumbersome tool to make a hex map that nobody else will ever see or use this might be the tool for you. I'm still hopeful future updates will bring more features.6 found this helpful
Abandonware. I want to like this software. I do solo-rpgs and worldbuilding and I would love a tool like this. I want to like the devs. I bought the software, told them 'i think the price is too high' and they reduced the price for everyone within the week. But.... You can find bugs easily. New features never come out. Tools are extremely limited. There isn't workshop support. There isn't a community doing anything with this software. It feels like a compsci student project that should have been a map generator for another game. There is no feature in this that is worth the price. This is a project that does not seem to be going anywhere, and I'm sure I will find other and better tools to play my games and tell my stories.4 found this helpful
I enjoy map making, so when I saw this I thought it was just a bare bones map maker without any extra crap. Sadly, this program is a hateful bastard who will fight you tooth and nail every step of the way while you grind your teeth into dust because you just lost 4 hours of work just because the program was poorly thrown together. It seems that the creator has also decided they would rather scarper off with our hard earned cash than to finish this project. Don't buy it...stick with Wonderdraft, Other World Mapper, or Hexographer.2 found this helpful
It's cool. It's not yet perfect but, it does things that other mappers don't even try to do.1 found this helpful
Game crashes frequently. Imported pictures are not placed within the map in any way. Pretty janky map maker.
