About Particulate
Play with physics. Create and save dynamic scenes using an array of tools. Witness complex physical interactions and emergent behavior.
PARTICULATE simulates millions of tiny particles using the massive parallel processing power of VR-capable graphics cards. Built using a new and fully-custom engine for high performance, PARTICULATE is a physics sandbox but also a fully-fledged creative tool.

Note that PARTICULATE currently supports only Oculus VR headsets (using the native Oculus SDK). This is due to the app having been built on a custom engine, which makes porting to SteamVR non-trivial (though that should happen eventually).

Features
- View featured scenes when you just want to relax and watch cool stuff happen.
- Build and save your own scenes when you're feeling creative.
- Interact with particles using ten tool types: several particle emitters, the Attractor/Repeller, Orbiter, Collision Sphere, Distortion Field, Colorizer, Dragger, and Stirrer.
- Tools can be placed into scenes statically, or you can record (and loop) their motion using a simple press-move-release mechanic.
- Turn on Audio Reactivity and play your own music (using any app) to add a new dimension to any scene.
- Build (and save) particle "sculptures" - static scenes with no placed emitters.
- Use "Freestyle Mode" to jump in quickly and interact with automatically-regenerating particles (works well as a demo for new VR users!)
- Take an optional guided tutorial to learn how to use the app.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my live review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/VFd4YSbidnY This is probably one of the most underrated gems on Steam VR. Part of the reason is definitely because this game only works on the Oculus Rift / Meta Quest headsets. You must use the Oculus SDK. Unfortunately, many VR gamers had the HTC Vive back in 2019 so this game didn't get to be experienced by about half the VR population on Steam. That's unfortunate because this is probably the best particle physics sandbox. It's also a pretty darn good music visualizer. The physics and visuals are mesmerizing as you see dust particles float around as they are manipulated by the different tools. You can just trip out and zone out watching the particles dance in the abyss. I created my own scenes, although you can also use the ones provided (17 in total I believe). I turned on some Tool from YT and tripped out. This is a must buy for anyone at all interested in this type of experience. Keep in mind, there is no gameplay and this is not a game. It's a sandbox for those who want to be artistic, but perhaps don't have the best natural artistic talent. Rate 8/10.
…8 found this helpful
Wow! How have I not heard of this app until now? If you like chill, mesmerizing, and creative apps you should definitely check this one out. After spending a bit learning how everything works, I was able to submerse myself in something absolutely stunning. It also doubles as the best VR music visualizer I've seen yet. A masterpiece in my book!1 found this helpful
NOT a Movie! This is an experience you'll definitely lose track of time (and space) in.1 found this helpful
Absolutely beautiful and calming engine for me it is very fun to spend time in and imagining every single little glowing dot is a star or some kind of universe we have never seen before for sure a 9/10 for me only issue is how with audio visualisation it doesnt have an option to turn off it going super fast to lots of noise.
It's a gem in the barren land of VR: great idea with polished interface and stellar performance. Give it a try if you're at least a bit playful. Just note that playtime/$ is particularly low, but that shouldn't be an issue for an owner of a VR headset.
Pretty meditative physics sandbox, especially with audio reactivity enabled. Had a very relaxed time effectively making my own Windows Media Player visualisations. Do wish there were more variety in the basic tools (like different collision shapes) but for the price and the simplicity of using it you can hardly go wrong. Hope it does get expanded out to steamVR in the future sometime so more people can enjoy, especially with the oculus facebook requirement ramping up soon. Would hate for this to be lost in the future.
