Pewt 'em Up!

Shoot 'em ups don't need cash shops. This mobile garbage has no place in your library. This is a mobile app, made for app stores, not PC... it doesn't matter if this was ported to PC before or after the app store release, or even if this didn't even make it to the app stores. This was made by mobile app "developers", and intended for the lowest common denominator in gaming, and it must be judged accordingly... there's no contemporary, modern PC gaming experience in mobile apps. Pewt' em Up! is a decent shooter that is engaging for a few hours at least. It's not the pinnacle of its genre, but it's also free so it's a good idea to keep one's expectations in check. The good: - Solid mechanics - "Stage Mode" has you acquiring currency to power up both your ship's offense and defense, creating a satisfying sense of progression. - If you die in a stage, you keep the money you made up to that point, giving you a chance to power up before trying again. (Also: Unlimited lives.) - Sometimes friendly NPCs will join you in battle, and they are very helpful. - There are cut scenes if you like your shmups with a story, but the game is considerate enough to allow you to skip them automatically if you don't. - Similarly, holding down the fire button endlessly can be uncomfortable for my thumb, but the game also inlcudes an "auto fire" option which is very convenient. - Besides "Stage Mode", there is also "Endless Mode" where you can play as different unlockable ships. - Reasonable achievements (I 100%ed it in about 7 hours). Overall I liked it. If this were a movie I would say that I thought it started slow but got better later on. The progression for your ship perks were attainable at a decent pace I thought. That seemed like one of the hallmarks of this game. VS a shoot em up like say Gradius, you eventually end up with that Gradius level ship in terms of power and speed. Just many shoot em up games offer you that power acutely, this game offers it to you chronically after you purchase the upgrades over time. In ways I guess that combines an RPG with a shoot em up, but its not so complicated to be on the level of an RPG, which is a good thing imho. The fighter team bail outs were a nice touch. Making the player feel like they belonged to a team, like a Starfox fighter ship team. It held my interest till the very end, good job!

great retro one shoot em up - simple controls, but ship upgrades, great pixel art, classic storyline - and a fab alien egg thing that might help you out!

This is fun. :) It's simple, and you can complete the story mode in a couple hours, but it's an enjoyable Shoot Em Up/Bullet Hell game. The Endless Mode has more play time for those who want to play more too.
