About Polar Bear Game

The arctic is a big place. Ever wanted to explore the endless expanses of the arctic as a Polar Bear? Well now you can in Polar Bear Game. Explore and survive a procedurally generated, infinite world, where, as a polar bear, you can choose whatever you want to do! Who's going to stop you?

Gather resources and build your own house to keep your polar bear safe from the unknown dangers of the arctic night. Make sure you make a campfire before the sun sets, as the dark is deadly! Hunt enemies and bosses to level up your polar bear and make yourself stronger, you can find items in the world to either make the most tank polar bear imaginable or a glass cannon. The more days you survive, the harder the game gets, and the procedurally generated bosses are no different. How long will you survive?

This is a very cute game. A lot to be desired and the combat is essentially meaningless, but building my house was fun enough, and by time I was done with my little fenced house, I was pretty happy with how it looked. Worth $2.99? Not sure about that. I got it on sale because I saw it was just released, and figured "why not". Cute and silly. Easy achievements. I would love for this game to get badges so I could display a little polar bear badge.

I think that it is fair to say that Polar Bear Game is bad, with that noted I do think it is also fair to say that it is interesting. Looking at the core gameplay loop it is abysmal. Essentially you are supposed to gather resources, build, and fight monsters like many other sandbox open-world games. However, this game is so limited in what you can actually do that it would be disingenuous to call it a sandbox. You only have a single hotbar’s worth of items (12 if I remember correctly) so your creativity is shot, that is right it is not that you can only hold 12 items, the game only has that many. Combat is nothing but holding down the right-click button and praying that you are at the right distance to hit the enemy while being out of their range. After killing a bunch of enemies and/or gathering an obscene number of resources you then level up either HP or Stamina. This is especially annoying because the balancing feels weird, I found that balancing the health and stamina was the best way to go and so there is a right way to play. You would hope that enemies would be interesting, they are not all the variety that enemies have is their size and health. And true to the arctic, the …
