Portal Defect

"Portal Defect" is a mediocre and rather unpolished/badly optimised 3D rendered 2D top down brawler with some lightweight RPG elements. The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing (I'm assuming these aren't flipped assets... if they are then we have a problem). And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. "Defect" is most certainly an appropriate word for this mess of a game because everything about it is defective. Optimization is terrible and it has some of the worst control issues I have ever encountered. Forget about using a keyboard because you must use the arrow keys to face a certain direction then WSAD to move in that direction. Even using a controller is highly awkward. Also forget about playing in 4k resolution because I was getting frame rates in the low 30s with an RTX2080 and i9 processor no matter what graphic setting. Playing in 1080p also looked blurry to me. The music slider and music off option also do absolutely nothing, so there is no way to turn off the incredibly annoying music. There are also some really long loading screens that seem as if the game has locked up your pc until you are finally allowed to continue. And for some reason, this game takes up more than 20gb of hard drive space. There is also no way to pause or save the game, so when you die you must start completely over. Сюжет, пусть и не самый глубокий, добавляет мотивации к прохождению. Механики, вроде манипуляции временем и пространством, реализованы интересно и добавляют вариативности в прохождении уровней. Порой сложность заставляет попотеть, но чувство удовлетворения от найденного решения просто невероятное. Небольшие шероховатости в управлении не критичны и быстро забываются. В целом, 'Portal Defect' - это отличная головоломка, которая точно понравится любителям жанра и тем, кто соскучился по играм, заставляющим думать. Рекомендую к ознакомлению всем, кто ищет что-то новое и интересное в мире головоломок. Игра определенно стоит потраченного времени и способна увлечь на несколько часов.
