About Procyon

It's the future! And humanity is, predictably, under attack by extraterrestrial forces. Lucky for us we have an experimental ship that's never before been flown that will surely...uh, possibly...well, implausibly be able to win the war! All we need now is a pilot or two.

Key Features

  • Fight through five increasingly-populated shoot-em-up stages
  • Destroy a plethora of enemies (or, as we like to call them, "potential explosions")
  • Switch between two distinct weapons on the fly: bullets for lots of damage over lots of space and a locking beam for concentrating on those hard-to-reach areas!
  • Use your shields to zip unharmed through enemy attacks!
  • Overcharge your weapons on the fly for even more destructive power!
  • Original faux-orchestral soundtrack is like music to your ears! Because it IS music. For your ears.
  • Multiple game modes, from the start-at-any-level normal mode up to "I have but one life to give for my planet" survival mode.
  • Local co-op allows you and a friend (or even a complete stranger that you're willing to invite into your home, if you want) to team up and deliver double the delicious destruction!
  • Support for playing in portrait orientation for a true top-down shmup experience!

Not the most impressive looking shoot 'em up but it does everything well enough. You're stuck with only two weapons in two modes (not counting the lightning bomb) as there are no upgrades or pick-ups, but there was an enjoyable switch between those depending on the situation. For the controls, they were perfect with d-pad and good enough but not perfect with the analog stick when going left and right. Since the backgrounds didn't have things you could crash into, it didn't matter as much. I loved the black humor from the commander talking to the pilot. Second level over the city looked very nice. Cool hexagonal effects on walls later on sometimes. Finished at easy in around 43 minutes. Went about halfway through at normal. The game has local coop mode (and so Remote play together) despite not showing on the store page.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…

Procyon, developed and published by Deadly Red Cube, is a compact but energetic entry into the classic shoot-’em-up genre, embracing old-school arcade sensibilities while incorporating a handful of modern conveniences. Framed around a straightforward science-fiction premise in which humanity faces annihilation at the hands of an alien invasion, the game places players in control of an advanced experimental spacecraft tasked with turning the tide of war. The narrative remains intentionally light, serving primarily as a backdrop for the action rather than a driving force. This choice keeps the focus squarely on gameplay, aligning Procyon with the traditions of arcade-era shooters where reflexes and precision mattered far more than exposition. At its core, Procyon delivers fast-paced top-down combat that emphasizes constant movement and situational awareness. Players navigate through tightly designed stages filled with enemy formations, environmental hazards, and dense bullet patterns that demand quick reactions. The primary weapon handles most encounters effectively, but the inclusion of a lock-on beam introduces an additional layer of tactical choice, allowing players to focus fire…

Solid shootin mechanics and nicely done sarcasm.
