Project DeepWeb: Eternal Nightmare

it is an absolute crime that this game has only 13 reviews as of writing i was totally unfamiliar with project deepweb, but found this game when scrolling through new psychological horror games. i thought i'd get a fun, maybe 2-4 hour "explore the creepy deepweb" game. boy, was i wrong. i'm 17 hours in and i feel like i'm at the tip of the iceberg. i am completely blown away by the quality and quantity of gameplay and materials in this game. it feels totally smooth to play, and isn't JUST a click-around-on-the-desktop game. there is voice acting, live action recordings (including a phenomenal, disturbing, dark web-themed live action "livestream" you get to watch), real life code breaking, a fascinating hidden story, and even some random "minigames", for lack of a better word. there are dozens of hidden secrets and content. to this moment, there is unsolved content in the game that the community is trying to solve. you get different interactions with different characters based on at what part of the game you talk to them. these interactions lead to more mysteries and more uncertainties. playing this game feels like solving an ARG that was made for you specifically. you truly …

An old-school late night doom scroll through a fictional web 1.0. Awesome, transportive experience. My eyes hurt from all the txt files. Unsettling and nostalgic. Cosmic horror of the internet type ♥♥♥♥. I do wish there was a more robust system for note-taking and file organization.

Another amazing, mind-boggling dive into the Deep Web! Even while solving everything I could on the first playthrough, there still seems to be so many mysteries left to uncover. And the eerie, unsettling experience of exploring secret servers, dark horror stories, criminal underworld sites, and surreal esoteric practices is perfectly captured here; no other game besides the first Project DeepWeb can match that. Also, usually I give up pretty quickly on games with complicated puzzles and no walkthrough, but that was actually a bonus here. It was so immersive I almost didn't want to leave - I guess it's no surprise I got the void ending lol - and I think my brain has been a little rewired to boot!

Amazing game, extremely detailed with so great storyline. The puzzles are more of an upper medium-high difficulty level. I would recommend playing the first game (Project DeepWeb) before this one - jumping directly in this one would be harder. On a high level, you need to find website links and files and use the information to progress in the game. But it's so much more than that: a very detailed storyline made of chat backups, site information, personal notes and other types of files. It’s been ages since finishing a game made me want to replay it just to uncover all the puzzles I missed the first time (especially the social media sites - not sure if they work or not). All in all, would recommend if you enjoy more difficult investigative work.

It's interesting, but incredibly time consuming to make virtually no headway. The game would be a lot more fun if the community had any interest in helping. Edit: This game has a steep learning curve if you aren't already a dev, however after some time working at it, this is a banger of a f*cked horror game. Excellent if you enjoy detail oriented investigation games.
