About Realms of Arkania 3 - Shadows over Riva Classic
Shadows over Riva (1997) is the third part of the glorious Realms of Arkania Trilogy...
Something sinister lurks in the seaside town of Riva. An evil force has subverted the city's leaders, and evil things lurk in the town's sewers. Explore the huge city, dungeons and even underwater regions in stunningly detailed 3D. Adjustable difficulty levels make the game as simple or as detailed as you like.
The Realms of Arkania games (Blade of Destiny, Star Trail and Shadows of Riva) deliver a prime example of the classical European fantasy universe. Based on Germany's most popular pen & paper role playing game, it was also the first German computer RPG series to get widely recognized outside of its home country. To this day it holds a stable hardcore fanbase that loves the games for their comprehensive adaption of the pen & paper ruleset and the believable medieval fantasy setting.

Realms of Arkania 3 aged poorly. Everything in and around this game is a hassle. If you have no prior knowledge or a nostalgic softspot in your heart for it, stay away.2 found this helpful
Thought it was an RPG turned out to be an ancient survival guide with dragons and awkward dialogue now I’m the keeper of swords and memes.1 found this helpful
Realms of Arkania 3: Shadows over Riva Classic, developed by Attic Entertainment Software and published by United Independent Entertainment, represents the final chapter of one of the most ambitious and uniquely European role-playing trilogies ever made. Released during an era when Western RPGs were beginning to evolve toward accessibility and cinematic flair, Shadows over Riva proudly stood its ground as a dense, statistics-heavy, and unapologetically complex experience rooted in the German tabletop system *Das Schwarze Auge* (The Dark Eye). It builds upon the foundation set by its predecessors, Blade of Destiny and Star Trail, while refining and expanding many of their mechanics. The result is a game that captures the spirit of pen-and-paper role-playing with a level of mechanical depth and authenticity that few titles, even decades later, can match. The story of Shadows over Riva begins deceptively small but gradually unfolds into a tale of political intrigue, corruption, and supernatural horror. The player controls a party of adventurers arriving in the coastal city of Riva, where reports of orcish incursions and strange disappearances have stirred unrest among the populace. Too Afraid I'm Gonna Hit One of the Game-Breaking Bugs Objective Review 6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great game-play. 4 of 5 great story average game-play. 3 of 5 average story great game-play. 2 of 5 give it a go if it's you're favourite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do, 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. Realms of Arkania 3 - Shadows Over Riva Classic score is 2 of 5 Subjective Review So I've given this game nearly 24 hours of my time, and that time given has been fun. Love the battle system. Love the story, so far. Tried all three Classic RoA games, this one has given me the best experience. But I stumbled upon a couple reviews who each stated they'd come across dead-ends where they had to start over. One experienced a bug right near the end that wouldn't allow him to complete the game. I don't wanna do that. It would sour my impressions of this game. The graphics are old, yes, but somehow contribute to the charm of the game. They make you feel like your actually in that time period. If you want to experience a very unique RPG from times of old, this would be one of them. Just be forewarned. You might get several hours into the game…1 found this helpful
