We all knew the old thorwal saying "Never meet the hero of your childhood" and this game embodies this well - unfortunately. Not only is the game clunky and downright ugly (but lacking the spirit and charm of its predecessor) it is also so buggy I lost countless hours because I had to reload. Some nighttime ambushes cannot be finished, sometimes you travel without progress for month, at one occasion the BBEG of the Clanegh-ruin jus't didn't spawn and so on and so on. I try to like this game for the sake ofd the hours I had in the game back then but it is nearly impossible as there simply is nothing to like.6 found this helpful
Absolut MONSTER of a CRPG!! Don't believe the 'mixed' rating, this gem is a TRUE ONE TO ONE remake of the original! That means ALL the depth, detail and design has been faithfully recreated and heavily polished up by a very talented solo dev. So the game is a true remake that doesn't miss a beat, and includes many quality of life features as well. Don't miss this one! If you love CRPGs that are turn-based, party-based and very unique with an old school flair and doubling down on the UNIQUENESS, grab this gem today! Much Love guys and God Bless yall! :) <34 found this helpful
Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny is a modern remake of a revered early-1990s computer RPG that itself was based on the long-running German tabletop system The Dark Eye. Developed by Crafty Studios and United Independent Entertainment and published by United Independent Entertainment, this version attempts to bring a deeply traditional, systems-heavy fantasy role-playing experience to contemporary audiences. Set in the richly detailed world of Aventuria, the game invites players to assemble a party of adventurers and embark on a sprawling quest to prevent an impending orc invasion by recovering the legendary Blade of Destiny. While the foundation is rooted in classic CRPG design philosophy, the remake’s reception has been shaped as much by its ambition as by its uneven execution. At its core, Blade of Destiny is a party-based role-playing game that emphasizes preparation, statistics, and tactical thinking over spectacle. Character creation is one of its most detailed aspects, offering a broad range of classes, races, attributes, and skills that reflect its tabletop origins. Each party member is defined by an intricate set of stats that influence combat performance, survival in t…3 found this helpful
Too Long to Take a Chance Objective Review 6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great game-play. 4 of 5 great story average game-play. 3 of 5 average story great game-play. 2 of 5 give it a go only if it's you're favourite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do, 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. Realms of Arcania: Blade of Destiny score is 2 of 5. Subjective Review I really like this kind of game. Actually, that statement doesn't really apply here because there are very few, if any, like it. I mean, how many games have you played where your characters need to sleep with a blanket, wear proper attire when it's snowy or raining, and if you don't, your party members could catch the sniffles, that in time, if not properly cared for, could die of pneumonia or some other such sickness? I would dare to write that there are no other games that do such. You can turn such off in this remake to make your adventuring easier, and it becomes very similar in this respect to many other RPG's. But leave it on and you're introduced to a very realistic adventure... again, in this aspect. But after about 60 hours of play, I decided to not continue because of the poss…1 found this helpful
I love a good RPG. Might not be a patch on the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, but is a good early years rendition that is still an enjoyable outing. It's the usual fair: choose your party; either with pre-designed characters or create your own. Your choice of characters may or may not influence how you fair in the Realm of Arkania. Then off you trot. Ask about, get clues, and obtain quests. As you progress the storylines you will develop each party character when they gain enough experience. The upgrade options are many and can at 1st be quite daunting if your not a seasoned RPG player. Like all RPG there is a lot of pick-up and delivery to progress through the game, but that's what we sign up for. I've got the other two offerings in the Realm of Arkania trilogy and looking, very much, forward to dipping my toe in there soon.1 found this helpful
I bought this on sale because I bought the original game when it came out but I doubt I will finish it.
