The Realms of Arkania games (Blade of Destiny, Star Trail and Shadows of Riva) deliver a prime example of the classical European fantasy universe. Based on Germany's most popular pen & paper role playing game, it was also the first German computer RPG series to get widely recognized outside of its home country. To this day it holds a stable hardcore fanbase that loves the games for their comprehensive adaption of the pen & paper ruleset and the believable medieval fantasy setting.

Copy protection on saving games. Yes they provide the PDF to count words in, but hell - just remove the copy protection if you still want money for this. Nobody cares about < 5 euros. But I definitely don't recommend this old gem when we have to pay for a "broken" version2 found this helpful
Walked the star trail with wine and a spell scroll - now I’m the hero who saved the world but can’t read a map to save his soul.1 found this helpful
Realms of Arkania 2: Star Trail Classic, developed by Attic Entertainment Software and published by United Independent Entertainment, is a shining relic from an era when computer role-playing games valued depth and realism above accessibility. Originally released in 1994 and based on the German tabletop system “The Dark Eye,” Star Trail was designed to immerse players in a richly detailed world governed by rules, probabilities, and careful decision-making. The modern Steam release, subtitled “Classic,” preserves this experience in its raw, unfiltered form, offering a demanding but rewarding journey for anyone who longs for the intricate, unforgiving style of early ’90s CRPGs. The game begins by dropping players into Aventuria, a sprawling fantasy land where tensions between elves and dwarves are rising amidst the threat of an impending orc invasion. Your mission—to recover the legendary Salamander Stone and help unite these ancient races—sounds straightforward, but Star Trail turns this premise into an expansive, systems-driven campaign. Rather than guiding a single hero, you manage a full party of adventurers, each with their own race, class, abilities, and backstory. Character c…1 found this helpful

Realms of Arkania 2 aged poorly. Everything in and around this game is a hassle. If you have no prior knowledge or a nostalgic softspot in your heart for it, stay away.
