Red Embrace: Hollywood

Red Embrace: Hollywood is a mature, choice-driven vampire visual novel that places considerably more emphasis on personality, relationships, and political maneuvering than conventional supernatural action. Developed and published by Argent Games, it transports players to Los Angeles in 1996 and begins with a dramatic transformation from an ordinary human into a vampire. From there, the protagonist is introduced to a secretive society governed by its own expectations, rivalries, loyalties, and dangers. The premise quickly establishes that becoming immortal does not necessarily mean becoming powerful or secure, as the protagonist must learn how to survive among individuals who may be allies, manipulators, or threats. Character creation is one of the more distinctive features. Players can customize the protagonist's appearance and identity through several options, including pronouns and visual characteristics. The created character is also represented within certain illustrated scenes, which gives customization greater relevance than a simple portrait displayed occasionally during conversations. One of those VNs that left me SHOOK and just staring at the monitor for a good while. It's terrible, it's beautiful, it's gut-wrenching. If you play this, please do yourself a favor and work to get Markus' special ending. It's a trudge but it's 100000% worth it as it ties the game up in the most beautiful way and you will not regret it.

This game made me so sad. And I think that means the writers have succeeded. Markus intrigued me immediately and through out the course of the story really made me fall in love precisely because he is so meta talks to you directly and I'm truly convinced he is the only one that can truly love you, because he sees you the player beyond the character you are playing. [spoiler] And he is right about how the only way to love you is romantically through your mind, and any 'physical' intimacy can only exist if you believe in him or the idea of him, just as he has had so many relationships with the idea of someone (which I interpreted as past versions of your character). Everyone else's route might be stories, but his route felt like a real relationship. So I was so so sad at his endings. I initially thought that he was just a character who can see the future and the many storylines that could unfold (in typical meta fashion). But I understood that his endings could only be like that, the the most romantic endings for him are sad -- because he recognizes that he is a character destined to love you, created to love you, yet he cannot love you because you the reader is greater than anythin…

only bad endings?? ♥♥♥♥ count me IN this was one of the best visual novels i've ever played as someone who loves dark themes and doomed romances, to play this for the first time again i would kill someone. in all seriousness though this game IS no doubt worth your time and money if you like this genre. no one will ever understand how much this game means to me... plz.. just play it

As someone with a southern accent who, at one point, worked in a sex shop, this game landed oddly close to home. 10/10.
