An excellent puzzle game that challenges my mind with clever mechanics and engaging levels. Very enjoyable and well-crafted!2 found this helpful
I like Recounter, but there are some significant issues that cause me to want to warn people away from it, even with as inexpensive as it is. Call it a skill issue, but the only way I can imagine easily completing the game is from playing and dying on easy mode over and over to build up stats on the last surviving character (who you get to use as-is on the next attempt) and to upgrade whatever gear you want to be equipped with on your next attempt. Even on easy, healing items are scarce enough that it's easy to run out, food items are also scarce enough that it's easy to run out, and when you're out of food, just moving around the map costs health. Another issue I had with the game in general is almost nothing is explained. You can make inferences on how specific status effects or stats work, but your guess is as good as mine. Unless you get familiar enough with the game to memorize the specific damage types of each weapon, and how effective each type is against which set of armor the enemy has, and even then, what factors that go into hit percentages isn't explained to you either. Have 4 attacks whiff in a row on 99% chance to hit, and it's hard to give credulity to anything tha…1 found this helpful

Rencounter, developed by SPVD and published by GrabTheGames, is a deliberately harsh and methodical dungeon-crawling experience that blends turn-based tactical combat with roguelike randomness and survival management. From the moment the game begins, it makes clear that it has little interest in holding the player’s hand. Instead, Rencounter challenges you to learn its systems through failure, observation, and persistence, offering a slow-burning but deeply strategic experience that rewards careful planning over impulsive action. Exploration in Rencounter unfolds across a network of interconnected rooms and corridors, each representing potential opportunity or danger. Movement is handled on a turn-by-turn basis, meaning every step consumes time and resources. This structure gives exploration a weight that real-time dungeon crawlers often lack, as wandering aimlessly can quickly lead to starvation, injury, or a disastrous encounter. The layout of the dungeon shifts from run to run, reinforcing the roguelike foundation and ensuring that no two expeditions play out the same way. Players must constantly decide whether to push deeper in search of better rewards or retreat to preserve d…
