Inspired by the glorious retro days of 8-bit gaming, Rex Rocket is a traditional 2D platformer that pays tribute to classic NES games like Mario, Mega Man, and Metroid. Old-school fans and platformer newcomers alike will find Rex Rocket an enjoyable and rewarding experience thanks to one-of-a-kind handmade pixel art that makes up over 100 handcrafted levels connected in an expansive starship-- each filled with a wide variety of puzzles, enemies, hazards and bosses. An original chiptunes soundtrack by Saskrotch, captivating setting filled with quirky characters, and ability to choose the gender of your hero is only a handful of the many awesome features in the game.
Set in Earth's distant future, Rex Rocket alludes to the classic conflict of Man vs. Machine. You play as either Captain Rexford or Rexanna, a former war hero who now transports scientists throughout the universe in the epic Star Ship-- S.S. Montana. The game begins on Earth as the crew prepares for another routine mission for the Council of Science that involves transplanting bio-engineered Terra-Oozlings onto an uninhabited planet on the other side of the galaxy. While the ship's crew are in cryo-sleep, all heck breaks loose when the dangerous specimens escape and cause the ship's main AI computer to go insane. It's up to Rex Rocket to stop the rogue AI, rescue the crew, and take back control of the ship!

Why wait so long to leave a review for this legendary game that I finished on my alt account? Why is it so cheap? Why do 80% of the negative reviews have less than 8 hours of game time ? It's because this gem isn't for everyone. The new generation of so-called gamers is so used to being spoon-fed that they can't understand what the game expects of them. Kids raised on the illusion of difficulty in deceptive titles like Dark Souls, who label anything they can't grasp as a "rage game," will never perceive the developers' love, poured into the Chad level design. Every skill is earned, every advancement in the twisting areas, their oppressive atmosphere, the constant sense of danger, the infrequent checkpoints, the hilarious dialogue that mocks the anti-hero you embody —all this in a setting of vibrant colors, remarkable soundtrack and deceptively cute character designs. You'll shout your victory over each boss with its traumatic patterns and discouraging attacks: God, it's so satisfying to gradually progress toward the final revelation of the last boss who, without a doubt, will have you crying for days after you miraculously defeat him. The game won't launch anymore without downloading and replacing DLL files or playing on Linux instead of Windows. Also, it wasn't a very good game, so I recommend avoiding this one and saving your money.
Rex Rocket is a game I personally found very fun, bottom line. It's a light metroidvania (only a little bit of backtracking and ability-gating) with many platforming, shooting, and enemy gauntlets. I've owned this game since March 2018, and it's one of the older games on my Steam account so I have a fondness for it. Music is excellent, story is pretty typical but it's fine, graphics are chunky and can be a bit ugly but I like them. Bosses are bullet sponges admittedly, but they don't take longer than about a minute or 2 if you are doing constant damage. I have played through this game 3 times, and each time did the hardest challenges available. And I just have to say, there are a lot of Skill Issues in these reviews. The game is HARD, but it's not unfair in my opinion, and the controls are fine unlike what quite a few of the reviews say. They are a bit stiff for the walljump specifically, but you can easily get used to it. If I played through this game 3 times and enjoyed it enough to do that, then that should tell you it's worth playing for the $1CDN it is. (It used to be I think $12, but the devs moved onto other projects and basically dumped this one.) Pretty unfortunate i…
